I'm driving my 993 to its new home Athens at long last. I've got a ferry booked from Ancona in Central Italy which leaves mid afternoon thursday 6 April for Patras.

I'm planning to set off from Southampton on tuesday afternoon, I 'll either go Portsmouth Le havre on the overnight ferry or alternativly set off for Dover.

Has any won got any recommendations for a good route down, not too worried about scenery.

Also any suggestions for spares when taking a 993 on a long journey

cheers

Hi,
I do this trip and back every June/July. The last time with a Porsche was in a 993 C2S in June 2004. The only think that went wrong with the 993 was the rubber trim between the bonnet and the bumper came loose at some ridiculous speed (super glue fixed it).
The only spares/tools I have with me is a very small basic toolbox with bulbs and an electric wheel wrench and some oil. Traveling in the summer the main thing is to have a good windscreen cleaner and plenty of rugs to clean the bugs that hit the windscreen. Now in spring it should be better.
Make sure your tyres are really good and you have pleanty of brake pads life.
If you want most travelling to be on the motorway then I will choose the Mont Blanc route, the quickest route is through Switzeland (Basil). Price wise crossing Mont Blank or buying the tax for Switzerland is very similar. Beacuse I live in Essex its easier for me to go from Dover, but when I was in Southamton I used to go from Portsmouth to Le Havre. The distance is about 1100 miles.
If you haven't crossed from Ancona before email me for some tips ...
I used a Mio sat nav last year and it took me straight from UK to Athens.
