Which Wheel Centres?

Hi,

I wondered if anyone could help clear this one up for me?

I have a 1997 Carrera S which came from the factory with 18" hollow spoke alloys and the 408 coloured wheel centre option.

The coloured centres have at some point in the cars life been replaced with the cheaper concave plastic items with black crests.

Now while I don't dislike the black ones I would rather have the car as it came from the factory where possible.

This is where I become confused.

Some say my car would have come with 993.361.303.11 61m caps as here:

Others say no the later cars had the larger metal crests 928.361.032.11 TPP as here:

The reason I doubt the later is that the Porsche script is in gold where I know this changed to black before my car was made? That said many Carrera S' I've seen have these?

Typically the first ones are more expensive and I'm not massively keen on the line detailing on them. However if they're right then it'll have to be them.

Possible that you have solved a puzzle for me.

My car was purchased new by original owner with Option 408
The option decoder at http://www.kindel.com/porsche/options.asp claims this is "18" Technology Design Wheels [1996] " but this has always been a puzzle to me because my car has 17" Cup 2s and none of its early invoices for tyres relate to 18" tyres - so I always assumed the owner hated the ride and had them swapped to 17" very early in its life.

However...you are saying 408 is colour crested wheel centres and here is a picture of my OSF wheel a few weeks before I owned the car. When I picked up the car it had its "correct" "Carrera 4" wheel centres and the dealer said he had swapped them to make it correct. I accepted this - because actually I would prefer to have the official C4 centres.

Anyway - I hope this helps you too! - I think in the pic above the crest is too large to be the ones with the additional line detail. Sorry the picture is so poor - it was taken on a mobile phone and emailed to me. If all this is correct 408 refers to part number 928.361.032.11

Where did you discover that 408 = coloured centres?

Ah balls sorry Mark I cocked up!

408 is indeed 18" Techno Wheel

446 is concave wheel caps with traditional coloured Porsche crest, fits all wheels

Mine has both these options from the factory.

Well after lots of research and head scratching I've concluded the correct style for my car are the top ones with the line. The confusing part is that I've seen them listed as 993.361.303.09, 993.361.303.10 9A1 or 993.361.303.11 61M I can see little difference having looked at many images and most places only sell the one PN (the 9A1's). Perhaps one number is flat, one concave and the other a different colour code?

In the end however I decided I wasn't paying £160+ for some caps I'm not that keen on and started to look at alternatives. The latest cars have a nice large crest and the caps are concave. Turns out they are pretty much identical to my current black crested caps and are a perfect fit on my hollows [8D] Part number is 7L5.601.149E

Ok I know they aren't technically correct but I really like them. Especially as I picked them up for just £45 on ebay. What do you think?
