Which white?

Bit of an odd question I'm afraid, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the name or paint code is for a very bright white I've now seen on a couple of 993's. Subjectively I think its a lot more vivid than on any of the current range of colours (of which I think the whitest is called Carrera White), in fact its almost painful to look at in strong light. This picture from Rick's site shows the colour I'm thinking of. Any ideas greatfully received!
Best regards,
Peter.

Grand Prix White or at least that's what it was on the 964......colour code available monday if nobody comes to your aid.

Thanks Lee, I could be mistaken but to my mind this seems several shades more vivid than GP White. I've only seen it on 3 cars this year, the one pictured above (which had gold centered BBS style wheels), a 993 GT2 and what I think was a car modified with Club Auto Sport fibre glass panels to look like a GT2 (so odds on its wasn't the original shade on that particular one).

Here's a link to a website that attempts to list all the different colours that Porsche has produced over the years. Unfortunately it does not show colour samples, but it does give paint codes. It doesn't seem to be 100% comprehensive (missing L3AS version of Turkis Blue, for example) and cannot vouch for accuracy, but it looks like whoever compiled it took a reasonable stab at it.

Interesting how the same colour during the same model years can have different paint codes. Maybe they tweaked the colour over its life or had different codes for different suppliers. (I am convinced, for example, that a '94 iris blue is slightly bolder than a '96 MY iris blue).

Good luck in your search. The exact colour code and name can be found under the bonnet on a sticker applied to side of the front fender (passenger side, behind the carpeting).

I looked at that one.....walked away when I saw it clearly wasn't a Turbo S despite the optimistic badge on the engine lid [8|]

Agree with Harry, I thought 993's came in Glacier white....certainly brighter than GP white.

Hi Peter,
It looks a similar shade to my 993 C4s which is glacier white. I will try to post picture.
I thought white was supposed to be the new silver but have spoken to a couple of dealers this week about its value and was not impressed with there responce.

Thanks for all the great replies.
Glacier White looks like the one I've been searching for and it certainly looks stunning on your car Jason.

I've just done a quick google and found two paint codes for this colour, L3AT and L3AU, would you mind confirming which one of these is on your car?
Best regards,
Peter

Thank you Peter and Harry for you comments on the car i must admit that i never thought that i would by a white car , always looked at black and silver but when i saw it for the first time i was gobsmacked and fell for it. It cetainly gets lots of comments and is easier to keep clean than my wifes blue BMW.
Peter the paint code is L3AU,hope this helps and if you know anyone who wants a white C4S under 50k miles let them know i am thinking of selling , i must admit i am a bit worried about selling privately as i dont wont to get my fingers burnt or let just anyone have a thrash in my pride and joy.

Peter the paint code is L3AU,hope this helps

Thanks Jason, it definately does.
I'm sure you'll easliy find a buyer for your car based on the pictures, best of luck with the sale. Are you going to be buying another Porsche to replace it with?

Hi Jason,
Did we bid against each other for the plate at the dvla auction? or was it through a dealer?.
It comes of the car this week as it is now sold , agreed the deal last week but still feel gutted .I have been to alot of auctions and obtained and sold plates for friends and family but i must now practice what i preach as someone has come up with the money.
This is why i am now thinking of selling the car, i had the plate for a long time on retention before i had a decent car to put it on , it wont be the same now.
Peter i will replace the car and plate sometime in the future dont know with what yet.

That white really suits the 993. There's a couple who come to our local club meet that have one in the same colour and it looks lovely. I even went to look at one recently but ended up buying something else (but also in white) from the same place.

A lot of older colours seem to be coming back to replace silver at the moment. Seen a lot of new cars in bright red recently and a number of brand new white cars too (including a brand new BMW Z4 in white which really suited it). How long it will last I don't know.

And white is definately easier to keep clean than blue ...

Ian.
