whiff

I pulled in to our works car park this morning and walked into the office , one of the girls said that my car smells of petrol fumes is this normal.

I have the same thing which I am looking into. I was advised on one of my threads to check the fuel lines.

Certainly sounds like when my fuel line corroded through, but you could see a rapid drip from near the rear o/s wheel so it was an easy diagnosis! Repaired by local garage, well I wouldn't drive it far....[]

Cost about £100 for flexi-pipe made to fit, labour and VAT.

That's the only thing that I am not getting, which confused me a bit. I never seem to actually find any fuel. I had it running up on a ramp for ages and saw nothing, and there never seems to be anything when I pull up after driving anywhere

I'd guess that it might be evaporating as it's slowly weeping somewhere. Mine had lost about 1/2 a tank in one weekend! You're more likely to see it with it running, as there's fuel being pumped, so surprising that you can't find it by "nose" when on a ramp.

It does seem from the enquiries I get that the fuel lines have a finite age, my neighbour's car is 6 months older than mine and they went 6 months before mine almost to the day!

If the rear hatch isn't closing properly its common for exhaust gases to enter the cabin. Although, I don't see how this would make the car smell of petrol on the outside. Maybe its running very rich?

Running rich sounds about right or smells right , nothing major, a good tune ups in order , which brings me to another question who where ? local to Southampton .
