'Whinning from behind dash'

Hello all....

I have had my 1994 993 one month and when I bought it I told the independant dealer to check the cause of the high pitched, intermittent noise emminating from somewhere behind the dash. The dealer said he investigated (?!) and told me that it was from the CD player and I shoudl add a suppressor to get rid of the noise....if it bothered me. Well it is now bothering me but I don't think it is the CD player. I think it is something to do woth the air venst / cooling. Anyone else had this annoying issue?

Rgds, Brin

I have exactly the same problem and mine happens at certain fan speeds.

I am sure that I have read on previous posts that it is the pollen filters slightly fowling the fan or motor. My car is due for a service in the next month and so hopefully they can rectify it then. Incidentally when I stand outside of the car it just comes from the drivers side. The car has a filter either side so I pressume that it's this one making the noise.

Are you sure it's not the fan for the climate control? This runs all the time and can get clogged up with dust. I think it's behind the temperature knob.

I have noticed mine only makes this noise when the engine is warm...? Seems a little odd?

Rgds, Brin

If it's when the engine is warm, the air that runs constantly through the climate control would be warmer and could be expanding the fan's blades causing them to catch on something.
