Whirring from o/s/f wheel over 30mph

Hi,

Havent posted for ages but I have a small issue I'd like advice on if possible please.

A few weeks back I drove over a speed hump, the drivers side front wheel took most of the impact although I genuinely wasnt doing any real speed. Anyway, I got onto the dual carriageway and noticed that when I reached around 30mph I could hear a whirring noise coming from the o/s/f wheel. The faster I drove the louder the noise became and if I reduced my speed to 20mph it went away.

I was going to pull over and just see if anything was obviosu but thought I'd be ok to limp home. About a mile down the road the noise had completely gone and I drove at various speeds to try and see if it would come back, nope, no noise.

Today, the car had its MOT and passed no problem and I thought I'd take her out for a bit of a spin. Half hour later or so and no odd noises up to that point the started the whirring noise again from the o/s/f wheel exactly as before. By the time I got back home the noise had gone.

The noise only started after driving over the speed bump a while back. I have not jacked the car up to take a look but hoped if anything that if it was obvious the MOT test might pick it up.

Is this likely to be a wheel bearing, tracking or balancing issue? The disks and pads have plenty of life in them. I dont get any clunking noises on fuill lock like a worn CV joint.

Oh, I did notice that when the noise can be heard if I very lightly press the brake the noise immediately disappears until I take my foot off.

Anyone have any idea's? It'll end up going back to the garage to be checked over and sorted but it's bugging me.

Thanks for any help.

I think you have got something (debris) trapped between your caliper and the disk. The fact that it comes and goes doesn't sound like a bearing to me. Take the wheel off and inspect the brake.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply Tony.

The next opportunity I get I'll whip the wheel off and take a look. I'll report back if anything is found!
