Whirring noise

Hey folks! Here is the story. Recently bought a 85 lux with a dead engine. Sourced a good used engine and fitted it with new timing belts. I left the water pump and tensioners because they had been done about 20k ago and seemed in good order. It's running great but there is a whirring sound, it sounds exatley like when a cambelt is too tight. I took the covers back off and slackened the belts, they are deffinatley not too tight but the noise is still there. It's not the PAS or alternator belts either as I've tried it with them off too. Any ideas?

My water pump whirrs like a supercharger. So does my next door neighbours.....so close in sound that the dogs think I've come home, even when I am home...[8|]

My specialist was happy that the pump was just noisy, but I'd get it checked out if it was my engine!

Ah yeah that's probably it then. It had zero play on the shaft and spining it by hand it was quiet so I think I'll leave it for now and enjoy the car! Cheers

double check that you have clearance on all the covers that have been removed, as when i changed my rotor arm and dissy cap i was very supprised too hear what happend when the cam belt cover dropped a little and oh lee christ what a noise,,, check the simple this first ps oh lee christ i think is the modern way of saying holy christ, just what the kids tell me............abreveations nightmare dont call your kids richard (dik) is the prime suspect...............goodluck............
