Whistling noise from engine

Hi,

When i start my engine in the morning it makes a whistling noise. After driving it for about 5 minutes the noise goes.

Anybody have an idea of what it could be.

It could also be something to do with belts/belt tensioner bearing/water pump. Is it a whistle or a whine? Impossible to diagnose over the forum - most probably needs a service centre diagnosis![;)]

Very likely to be the 'V' belt which drives the A/C,alternator,water pump, power steering coming loose. Next time you hear the screetch open the engine lid and listen out for it.
It's not an expensive fix - and it's covered under warranty. Do get it fixed sooner rather than later or very suddenly the engine could overheat, you'd lose power steering and the battery will die in quick succession.

Try a touch of talcum powder on the V belt - no really it's not a joke [;)].

If the whine stops temporarily then you know its a faulty belt.

Alternator at a guess - they normally whine slightly under load, or a lot moe if the bearings are on the way out (a not uncommon fault).
