Whistling/whining from engine

Hi

I've got a 'non-specific' problem with a Boxster.

Whistling/whining from the general engine compartment.
Slight differences when depressing clutch, so the first (incorrect) diagnosis was a clutch bearing.

Has anyone had anything similar?
Is there a Boxster known issue?

It is 03 Boxster S.

I appreciate it is a long shot, considering the very general symptom.
However, I'm just trying to get some clues, before I spend £000's getting the engine stripped, with no guarantee of resolution.

Anyone any clues?

Kindest Regards
Colin

From your description is could be absolutely anything from an vacuum / air leak to clutch to dual mass flywheel

Afraid you'll need to be a bit more specific about speeds, revs, magnitude of noise etc etc etc

David

Loud whistling at stationary.

Revs
Does go once once moving, with some revs.
Does not change by just engaging gear and just moving off, so revs related.

Location
Clutch has been out, so it is within the engine.
(Hence why only current option is engine strip down or replace)

Magnitude
Loud enough to hear in the cabin with the roof up and stationary.
