White Dials And Surrounds?

Hello....

I have seen a few very nice 993s with white dials and aluminium surrounds. Does anyone know where I can purchase these at a reasonable price (ie porscheshop are wanting £250 for a set of white dials).

Any help would be great - thanks a lot!!!!!!

I bought some aluminium dial surrounds off ebay for about £30 - they look great and were easy to fit with a bit of 3m tape. Do a search for Porsche 993 and they might be listed, but you'll need patience to go thru all the hits that comde up. I've seen dial decals somewehere like Porscheshop - not too pricey to buy but fitting them might be a nightmare as you must have t osplit the fronts off the instrments to get them in.

Thanks Craig.

I managed to get a set of dial surrounds from a guy in Germany and bought the white dials from a company in California.

Cheers

There was a thread some time ago on this subject which (if memory serves me right) led you to this link:
http://p-car.com/diy/alugauges/

Either click through or cut and paste it into the browser bar. You might be put off by the opening indicatuion as to the difficulty of replacing the dials: "Not for the faint hearted".

Good luck.

Hi,

The walkthrough guide was excellent, already seen it.

I have fitted white dials to a number of previous cars using the same method, however, the 993 is a little easier as the dials just "pop" out instead of having to remove the entire dash section etc.

I am looking forward to seeing them fitted, really stand out against the black carbon surround etc.

I will post some pictures up once done.

Cheers

I did the conversion on my car last year so thought I'd share my findings!

Firstly avoid the stickers that you can buy to simply stick over the dials - they are prone to bubbling and more annoyingly they cut out alot of the backlighting at night making the dials even harder to read! []

I had mine screenprinted by REAP Auto Design. This guy does dials for Porsche GB, so he's damn good. He can do anything you want, pretty much. My car is a C2S, so I was keen to keep the Carrera S script on the rev counter. Interestingly even the factory Tequipment ali dials were stickers (also with shocking backlighting!) and specing a C2S with the factory offering lost the Carrera S script [:-]

REAP made a set of ali dials for my car (as per Tequipment spec) but retained the Carrera S script and also misted the warning lamps to make them less obvious (as done to the current Porsches, eg. 997). Backlighting is as before the conversion - so perfect.

With regards to surrounds I was very keen to try and find a set of original chrome bezels fitted by the factory to Tequipment ali dials - I got lucky - but these babies are ultra rare! The factory chrome bezels fit inside the dial, immediately behind the dial glass - perfect for a C2S as the outer bezel is graphite coloured - a special feature of the C2S. All the aftermarket surrounds I've seen fit on the outside bezel and so would have covered the graphite - a small detail, but important for me! [:-]

The devil's in the detail!! [8D]

Some pics to show what I mean:

Hi,

Great pictures...

I fitted them last Friday, was a bit of a pain, worried when pulling the needles out, however, worked a treat and they look fantastic. The speedo was 10% out, really annoyed me, however, since fitting the new dials I must have put the needle back a little different and it's 100% spot on now - bonus, very happy.

I also fitted silver rings around the dials, complete the job nice.

I got my dials from a place in California (NR Auto) - full white, no cut outs and I didn't have any problems with the light on the display (as per that chaps fitting guide), they come up bright and in a nice red colour which matches the stereo...
