Do you find it frustrating when you are in your 'commuter wagon' driving alongside a nice old 944 ( as I was tonight). You look over and try to see if it might be someone you have met and being a sociable 944 enthusiast you would really like to flash wave or otherwise say hello.

I think maybe a way round this is to get a dayglo plastic 944 or 944 'pennant' and have it hanging from my aeriel to say " hey look its me I love 944's too "

Mind you if I did that I might as well get my car sprayed bright Yellow , customise it a bit and get a bright blue interior , as I'll probbaly get the same reaction [:D]

Yep, me too!
Same sort of thing for me last Wednesday when I was whizzing down the M1 southbound near St Albans. Saw a very pretty shiny red Turbo. Unfortunately I was in a lo-po base model MINI courtesy car, which I ha to cane pretty hard to catch up so I could have a decent look. It's very frustrating when that sort of thing happens.d

hiya mas hope your well, if said white 944 had cookie cutters then chances are its a guy near me in wanstead, regards jason

I'm fine m8ee , its an x-reg with toast rack rear , I did catch the number but forgot it , I'm getting old.

Oh well I take it he's not on here [;)]

Regards Mas

what were you doing in Ilford ? dreadful place.[:(]

Used to live there as a kid and recently sold my Father's house there. Couldn't believe what a dump the place has become in parts

Nope I wasn't in Ilford m8ee , I ws on the A406 heading from work in North London towards the M11 to come home to Sunny North Herts.

I drove alongside the 944 for a little while then HE turned off at the Gants Hill roundbaout I.E went off towards lford/Gants Hill.

As an aside , I know Ilford and I can tell you the place in N/London where I work makes Ilford look like Kensington [:D]

Ilford is a bit Metro city for me, I'm a village dweller but I can take you to far far worse places to be than Ilford, you need to get about more in London lol

Cheers

Mas

I left London for Somerset in 1968 and apart from 2x years working in Ealing 1987/8 have never been back. Why anyone would chose to live in London is completely beyond me. [:(]
Lived at Clayhill Gants Hill in 1967 when i bought my Lambretta LI150 series lll from Eddy Grinsteads .[:D][:D][:D] I fondly remember screaming up the Woodford Avenue hill [:D][:D][:D][:D]

hiya peanut, yes ilford would "break" your heart if you compare how it looked in the 60s, i live in wanstead and avoid ilford at all costs, still amazes me that just over a mile from ilford you cant by a decent flat for less then ÂŁ350,000 but thats greater london i suppose, nowdays it seems areas like hampstead, maida vale, muswell hill. and st johns wood are not that much more expensive then wanstead, buckhurst hill, and loughton, 20years ago this was def not the case, regards jason p

I lived in Ilford from '69-'70 above Barclays Bank, but I was 0-1 year old, so can't really remember it.
I was actually born in Barking Hospital, which probably explains a few things

we used to rollerskate over to Forest gate rink when kids, then afterwards we'd go over to Wanstead flats .Used to be a circus and massive fair there in the 50's and 60's 10x times as big as recent years .[;)]
Chigwell was just fields with a few isolated footballers homes in 1968 and Loughton quite snooty too.
Ilford had Harrison & Gibsons a huge furniture store with the 'room at the top' casino/club on the top floor. All the moneye'd people went there at night time and of course the Krays etc.

I didn't recognise any of it when I went back last year.

jeremy, did you know being born in barking means [shock!horror!] your a cockney and will at some point turn into a west ham supporter[:D],prepare yourself it will happen... cheers jason p

69 I had just bought my second car ,a Vauxhaul Wyvern and I used to meet my school pal for lunch occasionally ,he had just started work in Barclays bank that year!
My Father lived in Barking for the past 35 years
Small world isn't it.[;)]

peanut, harrison gibson gone, areas i mentioned in previous posts along with chigwell, now full of spurs, west ham players and cast members of eastenders, i like yourself remember lots of forest and open space in these areas, not anymore .regards jason p

Mmmm Barking is stretching it a bit [;)] it would have to be on a very quiet still night to hear the bells of St mary -Le-Bow [:D] mind you, as a kid, I could clearly hear the sound of the ship's fog horns on the Thames as they crept along the river in a pea-souper

Talking of West Ham. We used to go to Ron Greenwoods home in Chigwell in the late 60's as one of my school mates was pals with his son Neil greenwood. I think Martin Peters, Bobby Moore Geoff Hurst most of the 1966 Fifa WC winning team lived in Chigwell.

I remember I was on the top of Mount Snowdon when I heard the result on a transistor radio that day.

You read my mind hear the sound of Bow bells from Barking ! , I suppose in the days of mobile phones you could hear them from Australia [:D]

As for why anyone would choose to live in London +1 for me but of course millions do
( mad swines ! )

i agree mas ,i would much prefer to be over with you in the pelhams or near as but circumstances dictate that we have to stay in this area for the next 5-7yrs, saw aaron lennon and his mrs a while back in tescos at epping, me in wifes gti, him in a red ferr 430 convertable, i complemented him on his car but it looked huge and somewhat surreal parked in tescos car park, didnt seem to bother him though, regards as always jason p

Could I just say in my defence , it wasn't actually me who slagged Ilford in this topic ! , I sort of stuck up for it. I am always aware that what ever you think of a place it is where some other Porsche enthusiast either lives or grew up and it's very easy to offend your fellow man [;)]

Recently in the real ( non internet ) world I slagged off Tottenham and Edmonton and a guy took right offence and got quite nasty. Yes I just thought he was a gobby tw** but it did remind me that people can be sensitive about their heritage. I'm just glad to have escaped mine , the past mean very little to me lol

sorry it was me that slagged off Ilford but as I was born and brought up their for most of my formative years and my Father has lived there for 60 years I feel entitled to have an opinion. I certainly didn't intend to insult anyone's place of residence .

sounds like your past wasn't too good ! I was very lucky, my childhood was pretty good all things considered.
