White Stone Guards

I want to buy a full set of the stone guards in white for my car, but it seems some of the pieces I'd need are no longer available from Porsche.
The clear ones quickly turn yellow so they're no good, but I'm struggling to come up with another solution.

All I've got so far is that Armourfend can make them from the clear material they use, but I don't know if this will be any less sensitive to UV than the Porsche ones. Alternatively I could possibly use that paint coating service that was shown at Ragley or perhaps try to find someone that can custom cut some suitable pieces.

Any thoughts on this would be greatfully appreciated, I have about a month to come up with a solution [8|].
 
Try speaking to the Paintsheild guy, he was really helpful at Ragley.

Or, Bert did the sets, at least up to a year ago when my neighbour bought some in white. And someone used to split them, maybe Design 911 but you know my memory. Chances are someone has stock, may be worth buying the lot....[8|]

I'm sure I asked Rick a while back and he didn't do them. I'll get onto Bert in the morning and see if he has any left.
 
I've just called Bert and Prestige parts and sadly neither have them any more [:(]. Presige parts were adamant that their clear ones would not yellow so their might be an option there, but I still prefer the look of the white ones.
The search for a solution continues [8|]
 
Just how hard can it be to make them? I'd guess it was worth someone's time to set up and produce, they could obviously do clear as well.
 
I've been hearing conflicting stories about the stone guards, one person suggested they were effectively painted and not self coloured and were only available for a couple of years as they caused Porsche a lot of problems (although I'm not sure about this as I bought some a couple of years ago and can still buy some of them from Porsche). My memory of them is that they were slightly translucent which is what I need as I wont be running an original colour (which makes sense as I believe the same ones were used for Alpine and GP White), and that's certainly how they appeared when I started removing them over the weekend.

I think I now need to just weigh up whether the Armourfend ones will be better than the Porsche clear ones, and perhaps just expect to have to change them every few years. [:mad:]
 
If your car will be non-standard colour then consider non-standard stone guards.

If you remember back to a few years ago on Titanic I organised a group buy of 3M helicopter tape from Trident Racing at Silverstone. A 2ft square of that stuff is about £15 and you can cut 1.5 sets of stoneguard from it. I made up some card templates of mine and have just cut out the right shape whenever I've had paintwork done. I'll be doing the same again when the Turbo comes back
 
Maybe you could organise a group buy for here as well! With all the paintwork I'm doing on my S2 I could do with replacing the stone guards too.

I think it's just on white cars that it becomes a problem, you can't see the discolouring on other colours. Naturally this gives me the temptation to consider having it painted in maritime blue instead [;)] (Joking aside I've chosen the colour now thanks to Paul's help - however sun glasses will be required to view it :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:).

I'm so glad you went for the Pink Panther look :p
 
Just a thought. Unless you're armourfending the whole front end, and will thus need to touch up regularly the stone chips, is there actually any need for the stone guards? Or just pay more attention to the areas concerned.

On trackdays I find an awful lot of rubber marks from tyres end up on the rear ones, and peeling off the guards the other day showed how many impacts they'd sustained, so I think for track use they are pretty important. The front wings will be fibreglass so they'll probably chip like mad too, but as the front bumper will be made from the same stuff I'm expecting to have to make use of Pauls services every year or two anyway.
 
As I recall you used to be able ot get Black ones. There is a guy on Rennlist with a white 951 with Black Stone guards on. they look really good, not to ricey either!
