Tale of woe...
Girlfriend sat in traffic in the 944, waiting for a bus to unload its passengers. white, transit like van behind is too impatient to wait, pulls out to overtake both girlfriend and bus, catches the rear quater of my car...speeds off! Lot of white paint and a dented wheel arch, no way he wouldn't have felt/heard it - what a ****. Unfortunately she only got a partial plate - maybe one letter out, but old bill not bothered anyway.
The only positive of the story is that the Norwich Union were very helpful, and have arranged for Solus in Heston to do the work - a Porsche approved bodyshop - can't believe it. They'll pick it up and deliver it back.
Really glad i managed to get the reduced excess in writing (see insurance post) - £320 rather than £720!

yes indeed. White van drivers are a-holes. No exception. I think there's a function of the electronics which remove any sense on startup.

Glad to hear your insurance company is playing ball. Are you liable for that £320 on this incident though? That would suck.

unfortunately, unless the driver is traced - yes, and it does indeed suck!

On what basis are the "Old Bill" not bothered...

With all the CCTV coverage etc in this country and the partial plate surely there is something they can do, even if in the end they cannot find the perpetrator

Who gets to decide if something is serious enough for an investigation?

Problem nowadays with a partial plate is that (especially with white vans!) there was probably about 50 of the things registered at the same time with sequential number plates.
Still sucks that you have to foot the excess bill though. Ask your insurance comany about the uninsured motorists fund - they all pay into it for the unwashed, and I don't see what difference someone nicking off without leaving their details is!
I'm sure if it were a murder case, then the perp would be found, but lets face it, with limited resources, some things are more imprtant than others - no matter how annoying it is (find them and kill themmmm..... ).[]

I think that will only tell you if the car is taxed - it wont tell you who the owner is
