Who are you insuring your Boxster with?

Just had my insurance renewal come in for my 2014 Boxster. Currently insure with M&S and their renewal is £270 a year, SDP and commuting, £350 excess for my wife and I, clean history.

Thought I would get a quote from Porsche Club insurers Loxton, nearly backed out of this as their only number if a 'premium' rate number at 45p to connect then 5p minute after. When I got through to them the computer put me on hold and kept telling me how they valued my custom, after a couple of mins on hold was transferred to an answer phone as no one was available. Scrub a quote from Loxtons

Then tried Manning UK who advertise in Porsche Post. Polite and helpful on the phone but then said the annual cost of my insurance would be, wait for this, £770. Asked what extra I was getting for my money over M&S and all they could say was 'free' track day insurance which I don't want

Recently reinsured my 4 year old 3 litre Morgan Roadster at 5000 miles a year for £320 a year. So why is 'specialist' Porsche insurance so expensive? I would guess my hand build Morgan would be significantly more expensive to crash repair than a current model Porsche where parts should be readily available.

So who do you insure with? Loxton pm me if you wish to quote me

It's always worth keeping your details with one of the online multi quote insurers to keep in touch with the market rates and to use as a negotiating tool with your current insurer.
Can you take out a multi car policy with the Morgan insurers?

Ive insured with Lockton on limited mileage and they have been good, £320 per annum and they have added additional drivers for short stints at no extra cost.........cant recall originally using their premium number, always a landline.

Hi.
For my 2p's worth, I've had an Admiral Multi car policy for a couple of years.
My total outlay this year was £875.37 which was for my Cayman S, VW Polo GTI(56 reg), Seat Arosa, and a VW Fox.
The separate premium for the Cayman was £137.80 (8000m limit), no commuting as I am retired-ish !
All cars have my wife as named driver.
In addition, the Fox included my son as principle driver who has no no claims and that bounced up the premium.

Regards.
Kev

I've been insured with Lockton for two years now and am delighted with the service. Less than £400 (haven't the exact figure to hand) per annum including track day & Euro cover.
Also, when I called them to ask about my, 25 year old son accompanying me to Le mans and on to Nice earlier this year, they adjusted the cover to allow him to share the driving at no extra cost.

The other highly competitive quote I had was from Saga! If you are unfortunate enough to have exceeded 50 years on the planet, they offer very good value insurance. The track day cover swung it Lockton's way for me although Saga was cheaper.

You pays yer money. You makes yer choice... All the best

hi, insurance last year for Boxster S 10,000 miles £175 with Admiral .My renewal is due in 3 weeks!

I've just renewed today with Aviva through Marsh (Porsche Insurance). After checking out other insurers for the same or very similar cover, Marsh were actually very competitive for a good level of cover - annual premium was £327 which includes cover for track-based events.

Switched from Manning to Aviva then to a policy I got through brokers AIB - each time the premium reducing. Loyalty simply does not pay!

Chris.

I am paying £195 with Admiral on a multi car policy. The cover is for two named drivers social and domestic only with euro cover. For several years now I have been paying 20 to 30% more than the boxster to insure my 2007 Subaru Forester 2000. Since joining it into the multi car policy the premium has reduced fron £290 to £150. I have always been disappointed with the quotes from the specialist Porsche insurers and the I.A.M. insurers. I simply do not understand the attitude of insurers who clearly place no value on customer loyalty. For the first 35 years I stayed with the same insurer. Now, I change every year. I do agree with the suggestion to stick your details on the main comparison sites so that you can most of the insurers each year.

Insurance is a funny game - they happily set-up algorithms on their little old computers and reel in the cash slightly undercutting their competitors, and pray the claims line never rings. When it does, and it's you, only then will you find out if you have "good" insurance cover or not.
I go with Locktons. This year £180 more than "MoneySupermarket" cheapest (after getting £110 off the renewal quotation just by asking them to do better - which is not how it should work really but we all know that one...) but I am confident they will replace my Spyder at full replacement cost, should the worst ever happen. I have a named account manager - a real person in the UK - who I speak to re premiums, claims, extra track day cover, additional names for short periods (even 10 wedding hires per year which he pointed out to me is included in my policy this year, bizarrely :) anyone Porscheless getting married??... )

Many of the bucket shop insurers will of course eventually pay out, but potentially thousands less than you expect, often with a painful claims processed managed out of an emerging economy by a trainee with a degree in Physcology....

For me the whole point of insurance is having cover I can rely on to properly cover my expensive toy....£15 a month extra is a bargain imo. just my two penneth...

Agreed, I went with Lockton's this year as they came across very professional & I liked the fact that there was a named account manager.

Had the experience of a total loss claim (non fault) with my previous insurer where up I was treated appallingly & as a result it made my mind up to move when I was able to.

I'm a lot more confident now that should the worst happen, I've got decent insurance in place.
