Who has taken delivery then ?

Well, come on guys, one of you must have a new 997 tt in the garage ?

First impressions ?

Not taken delivery yet - I believe only two cars went out yesterday from Wilmslow, one being White! I had a drive of their demo car and yes, it's FAST! The engine beat is different to my S, and it's a fair bit quieter insie the car - not heard one yet from outside. So apart from the different PCM screen and std Bose, it's just quicker! No lag just straight on the button.

Graham,

Any idea when it might be coming ?

What we would all like to know is, is it 'night and day' faster than the C2S, ie £40k faster ?

Yves

Had my test drive today - it is significantly faster than C2S especially with the sport overboost and the brakes are fantastic. I found the ride better than C2S also but the exhaust note is much quieter than expected. Stunning car ...

(All) turbos are known to be quiet(er).
Most of us enthusiasts need to 'tune' the exhausts to make them sound exciting. Strange that Porsche don't do it in the first place, especially after all these years.

I've been given a Sept build, but no date for collection yet - I'm doing the factory tour and collect this time.
Yes it is notably faster - the way the revs build after 4000 is astonishing - I 'clipped' the rev-limiter twice - watching where I was going rather than changing gear. This won't be a problem on the Tip tho'. Is it £40k faster - doubtful! Keep thinking about the additional profit margin they make on the Turbo. So .... does anyone want to buy a 997 S?
Graham

I also noted that the ride was quieter - didn't check what tyres were fitted but noticably less road noise.
Graham

Sounds tempting.

I didnt think to look at what tyres the turbo's were fitted with at Reading on saturday but I did notice a couple of 997's on Bridgestones. Not sure whether these were original fitments though.

Regarding the power delivery, I suppose what I would be looking for is a big slug of lazy torque low down to get the thing rolling followed up by a mighty thump in the back as the boost piles on and peak power arrives.

How does that sound ?

Yves

The power delivery was ever so smooth - pulling hard and fast all the way. Wasn't aware of a great thump of power even with the Sport button pressed. Just shocking accelaration right into triple figures. Could be license looser this one!

graham,

'shocking acceleration' does it for me thanks very much, now where's that credit card gone.....

Yves

There was a Cobalt Blue 997TT stuck in the A40 traffic leaving London around Hangar Lane yesterday at around 18:00.... absolutely amazing. The pictures don't do it justice. You are all lucky men.....

Is there no PSE for the TT?

I had a wee look at one today in the Local OPC when i really should have stayed at home.........looks fantastic and now i want , no need one .......the missus might see it differently though .........

Of course, 480bhp isnt really enough, better wait for the engine upgrade then.

Where will it all end ?

You need a Zork tube Mark :)

I drove a Lapis Blue demonstator on Tuesday, it only had 250 miles on the clock so I didn't push it too hard. Seems to have a good deal more torque than my current 996 Turbo and the extra 60 geegees was noticeable, but I fancy tyre noise was a bit more intrusive (Michelins) than on 996 - certainly on the piece of road I used.

I also drove a Ferrari F430F1 immediately afterwards - tyre noise was not an issue!!!

PS. I'm down for a Speed Yellow September build.

Presumably because of the fabulous engine noise ?

Can we assume that the turbo felt much more muscular then the Fezza, at leat at normal engine speeds ?

Yves

No actually, I thought the 430 was pretty responsive at low speeds, particularly if you left the F1 paddle shift to its own devices. I guess this is a product of latest technology - also larger engine size compared to the 997 T. There's certainly no doubting the adrenaline rush of the Ferrari. It was the Spyder version I drove and with the top down!
In the real world however, I believe the turbo is the more pragnmatic choice.
A friend of mine has just taken delivery of both - a yellow 430 and a Guards Red 997T. Lucky guy.
That's the ultimate choice I would think!
