Who is for ISA?

I gather ISA is required for type testing from July 6th, 2022. ISA stands for "intelligence speed assistance", which is intended to ensure that the car does not exceed the maximum permissible speed on the country road or otherwise. The systems can be switched off, but the emphasis is on for the time being. The EU wants the vehicle to activate the speed limiter autonomously in the future using GPS and traffic sign recognition.

I'm sure it won't be long before re-mappers and such like will be offering to switch off the system permanently so you don't need to switch it off manually every time you start the car, maybe the more sophisticated hand held code readers will be able to turn it off

Strangely enough…..ISA wouldn’t be my preference but a variable speed limiter would….I had it on many cars before my base and now the GTS…..so useful to prevent going too fast - yes I know I can control speed myself by moderating my right foot but when the speed comes so quickly you can find yourself the wrong side of the limit very quickly. Always been surprised that it hasn’t been available.

I just use cruise control.

My car has speed limit sign recognition and it is not very reliable particularly since local authorities discovered encouraging wildlife (aka not cutting back grass and foliage for clear sight-lines).

Same here Ralph. With all the speed limit restrictions and “safety” cameras around these days it’s become an essential option in my book. Cruise control is an outdated description … speed control/regulator?

The EU indicated some time ago that ISA was going to be introduced and it looks as though that time has come … yet another nail in the coffin for drivers! [:(]

Never say never, but I think you are right. My current GTS 4.0 is my 7th consecutive Porsche, and as I'm 68 it might be my last. If at some point I'm obliged to drive an 'appliance' I doubt I'd spend as much on cars as I have in the past.

Glad I got the GTS when I did. I’ve no intention of getting rid of it unless I absolutely have to.

We already have a 4 wheeled washing machine on the drive and I don’t really want another if I can help it Plus the cost of leccy isn’t making them as attractive as they once were.

My own eperince of these systems on MB makes me seriously consider getting rid of the thing. I do a lot of driving on country roads and, unless the system is turned off (difficult as it takes any opportunity to reset) it is continuously alerting me and even applying the brakes, due to going near a verge (necessary) or crossing a white line. There is one fairly narrow road where the side white line has worn away leaving some bits there and others absent. The system throws a fit.

It is the right colour, white, for an appliance and very similar to the washing machine having lots of programmes that never gets used.
