Who knows any good turbo suppliers?

Hi,
I am considering getting a to4e 50 trim #8 hotside stage 3 wheel from
http://www.pauertuning.com/

However as some of you with turbos might know, that company is in the US. And I would rather get it from someone based in the UK. Are there any turbonetics suppliers here? my searching doesnt seem to be getting me far.

Thanks

I think turbo dynamics is just scaremongering.

I havent heard of any complaints about turbonetics, also Vitesse use a turbonetics hotside. And no complaints about their turbos either.

Maybe, but how often do people remove their turbos to check for cracks? It could be argued that if the crack isn't affecting performance that much is it really a problem, KKK's also do it, I know they were having trouble finding good hotsides but generally they find the KKK's are not as bad as the turbonetics as the material is better.
Most people only find the cracks when the turbo expires, did they hasten the demise?
Garret seem to use better quality materials again but then they cost more.
I guess it depends how long you plan to keep the car and how many miles you want to do it. I suppose our cars may have less of a problem as the turbo is on the cooler side of the engine, but I have personally seen a number of ex 944 KKK's with cracks.
So maybe scaremongering, maybe experience, maybe we should ask another comapny turbo technics?

I would recommend SPS for a custom hybrid or standard turbo.... If you like I can get Simon at SPS to email you.

Turbonetics hot housings lack nickel, which means that they are prone to cracking.

Yes Vitesse use Turbonetics hot sides, but they run massive clearances between the turbines and housing to build in some insurance against a crack.

A hotside crack will rarely propergate to the outside of the turbo, but the crack can cause an edge to form which with normal clearnaces will eventally catch on the turbine blades causing a massive failure.

The reason why its better not to have massive clearances, is that your not making the best of the available exhaust gas energy.

Other turbo manufacturers who use turbonetics housings are Lindsey and in the past Kokeln, both of these also run massive clearances.

I do not sell turbo's, I just deal with the cars when they go wrong or spec up new and hybrid ones for customers cars. So everything I say is from an uncomplicated unbiassed view.

And before anyone asks, yes SPS supply me. But also they can supply turbo's with KKK or TurboNetics hot sides.. they would just rather not supply a Turbonetics one, even though the proffit margin is greater with turbonetics parts (I have seen the price lists and its much greater proffit wise using turbonetics parts compared with KKK), but SPS are trying to build a reputation for quality and reliability as well as all out power.

If anyone wants to check out a Vitesse turbo, they can pop down to my workshop and see a brand new one first hand to see for yourself.

Ok... I guess I am now Mr Unpopular having said this about what is probably 90% of the hybrid turbo's fitted to 944 turbos, but it has to be said ( But dont frett... if you have a turbonetics based turbo, if you contact the vendors they will probably reasure you that you have lots of warranty time left on the turbo and that they will stand by their products, and the wide clearances are probably enough to avoid a clash of turbine against housing anyway... So I will shut up!

Blimey, Jon. Couldn't you sleep last night ? [:D] [:D]

Agreed about that Vitesse turbo. "floats on a cushion of air" [;)]

Approx what are the costs of one of Simons Turbos? Also does he sell all the other requirements for such an upgrade?

We're being very strict about potentially commercial posts on the forum, so Jon and Simon won't be allowed to talk prices concerning their products. Give Jon a call as he says and I'm sure he'll put you in touch with Simon (and you can feel free to tell us all what you paid [:D])

Isn't officialdom wonderful [8|]

Well said Paul. I would not have it any other way. :)

To many forums have been destroyed by spam and businesses hijacking posts.

If anyone wants to talk performance products or Porsche repairs or servicing, just drop us an email.

Last of all... TurboNetics are pants. lol

Be very dependant on specification any way I would imagine,
Tony

Where have people got their metal ring gaskets for either side of the turbo from?

are they dealer only? or is there someone else i can order them from, as there isnt really a dealer convenient for me.

OK fair enough, but if that's the case can those that have purchased any of these products then post their costs and results as opposed to the suppliers?

Yep, that's fine, and as soon as I know how much my ball race hybrid cost and what results it gets with my new engine, you'll be the first to know [8D]

Got mine from the OPC, they will post parts,
Tony

Ditto - and new bolts & washers. Only cost another £100ish.

Still all worth it in the search of that elusive extra 20 bhp
