I would recommend SPS for a custom hybrid or standard turbo.... If you like I can get Simon at SPS to email you.
Turbonetics hot housings lack nickel, which means that they are prone to cracking.
Yes Vitesse use Turbonetics hot sides, but they run massive clearances between the turbines and housing to build in some insurance against a crack.
A hotside crack will rarely propergate to the outside of the turbo, but the crack can cause an edge to form which with normal clearnaces will eventally catch on the turbine blades causing a massive failure.
The reason why its better not to have massive clearances, is that your not making the best of the available exhaust gas energy.
Other turbo manufacturers who use turbonetics housings are Lindsey and in the past Kokeln, both of these also run massive clearances.
I do not sell turbo's, I just deal with the cars when they go wrong or spec up new and hybrid ones for customers cars. So everything I say is from an uncomplicated unbiassed view.
And before anyone asks, yes SPS supply me. But also they can supply turbo's with KKK or TurboNetics hot sides.. they would just rather not supply a Turbonetics one, even though the proffit margin is greater with turbonetics parts (I have seen the price lists and its much greater proffit wise using turbonetics parts compared with KKK), but SPS are trying to build a reputation for quality and reliability as well as all out power.
If anyone wants to check out a Vitesse turbo, they can pop down to my workshop and see a brand new one first hand to see for yourself.
Ok... I guess I am now Mr Unpopular having said this about what is probably 90% of the hybrid turbo's fitted to 944 turbos, but it has to be said
( But dont frett... if you have a turbonetics based turbo, if you contact the vendors they will probably reasure you that you have lots of warranty time left on the turbo and that they will stand by their products, and the wide clearances are probably enough to avoid a clash of turbine against housing anyway... So I will shut up!
