Who should I ask to fit my new Becker headunit?

I just ordered a Becker Grand Prix plus iPod remote (one of the last?) and need someone to fit it. Should I use someone like John Kleis in Reading who is a car audio specialist or a Porsche indie like Ray Northway? I want to keep the Nokia amp and DSP in situ for originality.

pull the old one out and put the new one in :)

Should be a ten minute job, although you will find the Becker a little 'tight' when pushing it in....

Hi Mark, I'll give it a go when the Becker arrives. There is a Pioneer unit installed now, which looks like it's about a year old in terms of design. Will it have the same connectors as the Becker for connecting to the Nokia amp/DSP, so it's basically plug and play? Will I need any tools to release the Pioneer head unit?

If it turns out not to be as straight forward as it seems I'd be inclined to call Ray Northway and ask for his advice/recommendation. In my experience you'll always get sound (excuse the pun!) advice and if he feels that it's not his area of expertise he'll point you in the right direction.

Regards
Anton

I was in the same position and Ray recommended John Kleis who they tend to use for anything more involved than just changing a head-unit. I am thinking of putting a becker cascade into my 993 and have the sound pack too. Am tempted to try and swap the amp and door speakers if i can use the existing wiring. not interested in a big audio install as i like to keep the car as original as possible, but the factory system is rubbish.

I replaced the front door speakers in my old 993 C2s and it made a big difference, even with the standard head-unit. The Sound pack makes any changes more complicated though.

For what its worth, i think the switch of the OEM headunit to a becker may need an ISO harness adapter. I tried to plug 'n play my cascade and got no sound (think the remote out on the headunits are different).

If i remember correctly, there is a german company that makes all sorts of harness adapters (Kaufatec i think?).

Many thanks Scaramanga and Anton, I'll check with Ray on what he thinks I should do. I did some research into who could do the work and John Kleis came up in my results. It seems that he is well thought of.

If you have the iPod cable to fit too then you will need to do some work to route it to whereever you want the iPod

Have mine in the glove box (requires removing the glove box - which is quite a tricky job the first time you do it - or it was for a bloke like me[8|]) - to drill a hole big enough to get the iPod cable plug through (well you could drill a hole in the back of the glove box - but that would be visible which I did not want).

Believe some people have them in the ash tray.
