Who to contact to find original dealer?

Some of the early information from one of my 944's is missing, and I am trying to find out who the original dealer was that supplied the car.

I have so far contacted Reading, Colchester (Jardine group) and Sheffield (JCT group) and none of them had any info for the car, other than Colchester sayingit had been to Cambridge (Jardine) on two occasions.

I have contacted Porsche GB customer services, but nothing back from them yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions on who to try contacting who could be helpful?

I can understand different groups not sharing service details, but you'd think they'd have general access to some data, for stuff like warranty work, recalls, etc.

Any suggestions much appreciated :)

Download the V888 Form from the DVLA site and send it off with a cheque for £5.00

They will send you (in 4-5 weeks) a complete list of all the owners including copies of the V5's and a copy of the original selling dealer order form

Does this mean that both of your 944s will be here to stay or shall one of them be making a departure soon?

Chas - I can't keep both unfortunately, not long term anyway.

The info I want is for the Turbo, it has lots of receipts for last ten or so years with good people (fair amount of casb spent with Hartech & RGA Porsche), but I have little info for the early years - so I would like to track as much as I can for my own records.

I filled out and sent off a form that came with my membership pack from PCGB and the nice man from Porsche Cars GB cent me a "Certificate of Authenticity" showing supplying dealer, options etc.

That would be my post as well, if I'd got in first! [:D]

So for anyone who has had a CoA recently, how accurate are they, and is all information, as above, always supplied?

After my initial contact to Porsche GB for information, they asked for a copy of V5 to prove ownership - which seem hopeful. I supplied this, and a few days later I have had a reply to say they have no information on system. Now I find this hard to believe, and perhaps I am at mercy to how helpful the individual wants to be. Anyway, my point is, they haven't even told me who the supplying dealer was.

So, if I pay out for a CoA, can I be confident that I will get this info?

In a word, no! They were not much use to me either, little or no useful information. I gleaned much more from the DVLA records and can trace who owned and where the car was most of its life. Fortunately for me a previous owner had done this, who then kept the car for 10 years, and it was all in the history file I got.

I didn't have that time frame, it took them 5 weeks to cash the cheque and in all it took from 4th April till 18th June to post it to me (1st class!). I'd almost given up hope.

It was originally registered by JCT 600 Hull and kept by them for 18 months and started off as H1 BOB, then H1 HUL and then a standard H plate for the second owner, third owner had 186 GRA and finally me with a plate from 1956.

H1 HUL sounds like a PCGB press plate? [8|]

911 HUL is the turbo plate but not heard of H1 HUL. Also until recently I wasnt aware the JCT had a Porsche dealership in Hull.

Porsche certificate of authenticity was wrong on all three attempts. First attempt was a completely different vehicle. Even when giving them full info from Marc Noack at Porsche Classic on last attempt it came back wrong. I gave up as this process took over 6 months

DVLA supplied great info on all previous owners and supplying dealer. All info came back within 4 weeks from what I can remember

Coincidently, both H plates are on 2007, £500 a year tax vehicles with H1 HUL on a Landrover Range Rover Vogue TDI V8 and H1 BOB on a BMW X5.

My WJH 169 was on a 1956 Daimler ambulance used as a chicken coup somewhere in Essex and I paid £25 for the log book in 1975 (a weeks wages!) as in those days you didn't need anything else for a transfer pending sale of my first car, a 1965 DAF Daffodil (forerunner of the 33) and put it on my 1969 mini van. Then in 1976 aged 20 on £40 a week I bought a 1971 TR6 for £935 and had to keep both vehicles as the then DVLA stopped transfers that particular week leading to rule changes to ensure it was a cherished transfer from a vehicle you had owned for 9 months or more (which didn't go well with the dealers). I put in on a new C15 van in 1989, a transit van, a Discovery and for the last 4 years, on my 1991 944T. I still hanker after the DAF now that image is no longer a problem, but last time I looked, there was only one left in the UK.

Looks like I was lucky then, the CoA was accurate and quite useful. Granted it doesn't do any more than confirm the build spec and dates. Maybe helped that my 944 seems to have had the same reg no all of its life - unusual!!
