Who's G-pipe is best?

Even with a decat pipe my car is way too quiet, and as the final silencer has a split and baffle rattle it seems like a G-pipe is the way forward.

My indie says that some have a bar attached as a support to bolt to the front mounts for the original silencer, but some (like the Porscheshop one from their photos) don't. Can anyone recommend who to buy one with a support from, or if one is better than others for some other reason?

If you look on the Design 911 site (www.design911.co.uk) you will see they offer two different designs. The Dansk unit is a simple bent tube with no supporting bracket (at £98.50) and the Scart one WITH the supporting bracket at £199!!!

I'm not convinced the bracket adds much to the end result since the G-Pipe only supports the exhaust tip anyway - and the primary silencer is pretty substantial to handle that. I'm afraid I don't have any first hand experience of a G-Pipe of either design so I can't offer any persoanl experience although I'm sure there are plenty on the forum who do.

Whichever you decide on will improve the sound no end!!

No way is the bracket worth £100 of my money!

I thought about bringing the car to the meet, but I work away in Slough all week at the moment and it is therefore awkward to tell my missus that I'm ditching her at the weekend to go to play cars. I'll have to see nearer the time, then. Also the car is in the paint shop on the 21st to get a couple of scruffy bits sorted and I told them they could have it for as long as they need it, so I might not even have it on the 26th.

Any evening meet in the area I'm up for, though not always in the 964 as I have it with me this week and I'm struggling to think why when I'm shuffling along on the M4 with the heavy clutch to manage and my lovely automatic BM is sitting on the drive at home. I brought it this week primarily to take it to the Ace Cafe last night and also to spend some time with it, but it's going to be far better employed as a fun car when the roads are clear than a commuting tool.
 
there are two designs of pipe. One follows the line of the original silencer and is longer, this type requires the rear bracket (err front bracket at rear of silencer if you see what i mean)which is integral to the design (it would be way to heavy to fit otherwise. The other type of g-pipe is much smaller and so does not require the bracket. There is obviously a marked difference in the noise output of both types. since the tube length is different. The longer pipe design is bigger and sturdier hence the cost. I have owned cars fitted with both but it's a while back and i can't comment on which sounds the best, I still have the longer style unit though it's not fitted.
 
Mine is a turbo so may be different result, but I understand we share the same final silencer box with 964's. I have been considering the silencer bypass for some time as I want more noise (I already have the cat delete) but have spoken (though not heard) with owners of both the short G-pipe and longer Swan's neck. Both said the car was too loud and the bangs on the lift off were too much so they went back to the standard silencer. Please keep the feedback coming, this is very interesting.
 
Thanks Laurence. On the basis that the small one is right for me as it's lighter and louder (I imagine). So I have ordered one.
 
Sorry 911addict - cross posted I think as I started a post then got called into a "quick" meeting...

I drove (nearly bought) a Turbo with a cat and G-pipe (not sure which one) and it was quite loud, but I'd be delighted if my C4 sounds like that. It did pop and bang on the overrun, but I love that! I am slightly concerned though as the turbo itself reduces exhaust noise as well as that car having a cat. I'll post back when I get my G-pipe fitted.
 
Yeh, mine pops on overrun, but the guys with both bypasses said that pedestrians were diving for cover thinking they were being shot at!! ;-)
I'm sure yours will be more "tuneful" ....
 
OK, 30 miles with the G-pipe and decat, plus a 3.5" oval slash-cut tailpipe for good measure, and I have to say it's quite loud. It's much louder than before at idle and I guess that carries through to all rev ranges. It is not obtrusive with the windows and sunroof closed though and at 80mph it just burbles slightly in the background. No noticeable pops on the overrun at all.

I think I like it then, although it may turn out to be slightly too much. I'll try to get Rick Cannell to bring his noise meter next time I'm going to see him to find out how track day friendly it will be.
 
I had a G-pipe installed on my C2 earlier in the year. I stumbled across this weblink which helped me make up my mind before going ahead.

The videos include a sample of the exhaust note with both a CAT bypass and Secondary Silencer bypass (G-pipe), but on a normally aspirated car (this car also had a non-standard airbox). You might be interested to compare the possible before and after effects of a G-pipe on your car as there's also a sample of the exhaust note with just a CAT bypass.

No regrets with my decision. For what it's worth, I do sometimes get a nice crackle on the overrun!

Thanks for posting that. I'd say they are pretty accurate representations - mine sounded like the standard when I got it, cat bypass when that's what I had and now it sounds like Greg's (even though I covered the holes a previous owner had made in the airbox).
