hi all

i have got a 1985 porsche 944 and when i open the door i seem to have to pull the handle up abit for it to work,
is this a worn part or has something come loose???

thanks ryan

I had to adjust the stroker plates on mine to resolve this, sounds like they want dropping just a fraction also take the door cards off and spray all the lock mechanisms with grease

Taking the locks and door handles off, cleaning and lubricating them, and re-assembling, makes a huge difference to the way the doors work.

Worth doing it, even if you think your doors are OK.

Oli.

If the above doesn't work then you might have a broken weld on one of the hinges inside the door. Best way to check is to get an assistant to hold the door open whilst wiggling it up and down, watch the hinges, if one doesn't follow the movement (bottom one in my case) then that's the culprit.

I removed both door cards and gave all mechanisms a good lube and was really pleased with the results[:)]

My actual doors are hard to open! Well perhaps not 'hard', but stiff. A squirt of WD perhaps?

Worn hinge pins? Door drops a little and needs lifting to get off latch. If play in door allows door to be lifted it can be the pins. I've had this on several older cars over the years, just fair wear and tear. Open the door, wiggle it uo and down whilst watching the hinges. If you see any movement between the two parts of the hinge (in a radial direction) then the pins are most likely worn and need replacement, simple job with right tools.
