Why No Stickies ?

TJW964

New member
Why don't we add a sticky to the top of the 964 Forum where all the members can introduce/discuss themselves and their car AND add a picture to allow others to see what is about and who is running what.

See 964RS Register Roll Call for similar.

Cheers
Trevor

Trevor,

You raise a very interesting question which, in itself, raises a few issues - some of which are 964 specific and some of which are more Club oriented.

As far as the 964 specific issues are concerned the forum administrator/moderator has yet to be changed since Ken is no longer the Register Sec. (Note to Nic!!). One ther issue is that whilst the 964RS Register has some 100 members, the 964 Register has somethng like 760 - so it might turn into a bit of a long thead!!!

However, even 760 is but a tip of the iceberg given the thousands of 964s sold in the UK and subsequently imported and it frustrates me that the official Porsche Club can't muster even a good proportion of owners to register their cars. One major factor here is, I believe, the fact that the Club insist on the Register members having complete privacy in that noone can obtain any information from the Register - either on members, whether they be past or present, or on cars. My view is that the Register should be public - at least within the Club membership - and that should be accepted by all who register. This would make it a more viable tool for historic research and provenance and, perhaps, could even be used to document a car's maintenance record as is provided by the Pistonheads site (see my entry at http://www.petrolheads.co.uk/members/editCar.asp?carId=17936&mode=edit).

Any views on such a facility would be welcomed since it may help to convince the Club Management that it is desireable. I don't mean to hijack your thread, Trevor, - it's just that it seems you would like access to this information too.

Regards

Dave

Sorry to become an accomplice to 3rd degree hijacking, but I agree that having access to details of register members and cars would be not only beneficial to the club (in terms of marketing and encouraging continuation of membership), but also of interest and use to club members. The privacy issue when becoming register member could be resolved by a simple tick box option.

I wouldn't however want any old joe to have access to address details. I'd hate to come home one day to find an empty garage! []

I am at the workers event this staurday and this is one of the items I want to bring up. Clearly an agreement to have some member details opened up to forum members can be done by having folks say that is ok - but that still leaves the issue of what details and is there any risk.

I do want to have the Club forum be more useful and to encourage more interactions etc.

Please also let me know what other issues we would like to see done etc and I will bring it up.

For those that might not know, a little benefit of registering my car was that I received some nice PCGB and 964 register stickers that are now proudly displayed in my car.[:)]
