why oh why do I like 'S' 993's?

Is there anyone else out there that is suffering the same itch as me? (Doc gave me some cream but not working!)

I have almost the perfect facelift C2 996 I bought from Stirlings early this year. It is immaculate, all original, mechanically sound, well cared for etc etc and I am loving the driving experience (especially some of the quiet roads in Berkshire with the odd humpback bridge)...

Even my kids fit in the back....so, why the title of this post?

I have always loved the 993 'shape' and build quality and I have been smitten with the 's' series carrera's since they were launched (especially if not modified with a rear spoiler) but I have stayed away mainly due to the fact I use the car every day, need space for kids and enjoy the OPC warranty I have on my current car...

Mark Pearce has been a totally invaluable source of knowledge and, I think, realism when considering the 993 options and I am indebted to him for my current car BUT how to get rid of the 993 debate going on in my head? [:(]

Advice on how to stop the search on pistonheads et al for a nice 993 C2S will be kindly received - who can give me a good horror story about 993 daily use??

Some medication may ease the symptoms but there is no known cure once the bug has taken hold. Give in and enjoy those 'curves'.
 
An interesting topic on which I am going to be of no help at all.

I've a Boxster (987) S, which I use daily and love to bits. And like yourself I think that the 993 is perhaps my favorite, but could I bring myself to swap my Boxster for one?

There is an answer though - have both.

 
Difficult decision, I went with the heart bought my wide bodied 993 and got another cheaper car as a dialy driver. Every time I get behind the wheel of the 993 is a special occasion and it never fails to turn heads. For me anyway, this is the pinnacle of the Porsche 911 experience!

Sorry but it's an itch that just has to be scratched. There is no hope just stop trying to fight it.
 
No horror stories here either I'm afraid. I got as far as ordering a new 997, as my head told me it would be easier to live with, though I had my heart set on a 993. Thankfully my heart won the day, I cancelled the 997 order and bought a lovely 993 Carrera S instead. I've no regrets.
 
Yip.....no horror stories here....everytime I get behind the wheel my face lights up.......off to the petrol station (again)......then away I go.........

Remember your a long time dead..........so must be worth trying it......................
 
My first porsche was a 2000 boxster S changed after 12 months to a arctic silver C2S which I have now had for 18 months and use it every day (clocked up 26k) love the car and despite having thought at great length about going up to a 997 I can't bring myself to change it - it is an absolute classic.
 
I've had my 4S for close on 5 years and its never let me down nor misbehaved. Gone from 7000 miles when I got it to 40000 now. Done about half a dozen track days, but nothing too outrageous. Been through couple of sets of tyres, shock absorbers, clutch (last week) and brake pads and discs and one service a year. Costs a bit but not much depreciation. One of the world's great cars and entirely practical. Commute into London once a week in it with no problems at all. Get in, turn it on, go......

I have a 993 C4S which I use every day. Have done 16,000 miles in last 14 months. As Nick Gardner says they cost a bit to keep on top of but the depreciation is good.

Did write off an Arctic Silver 993 C2S in December 2005 but thats another story.........

all of the above..

My 993 C2 is by FAR the best car I've ever had and probably ever will have. The ONLY other car that even remotely raises an eyebrow is of course the wonderful 993 C2S. It's the perfect scenario as I believe it's healthy to want something you don't have.
 
There is no substitute for a 993, especially when you take the depreciation in to account.

Like most Porsches, the cars are actually behave better as daily drivers rather than as occasional weekend cars. I protect the depreciation aspect by limiting mine to 5k/year and putting the motorway mileage on a cheap second car, though getting fed up with this and looking for a £4/5k 944S2 or Turbo as the cheap! second car.
 
Awful experience.
Open the garage door and be faced with a big fat rear end. Open the not too shabby drivers door and sit down into a sports seat smelling of leather. Grab the leather wheel and force a grimace as you are supposed to be enjoying the experience. Keys in after immobiliser and there is this awful mechanical rumbling sound eminating from somewhere behind--dreadful racket if you ask me. Ease the thing out of the garage--mind the wide arse on the door posts and trundle off to the shops. For some reason virtually everyon looks and stares as this product from some kind of German scrap-heap challenge rumbles past. Find a suitable parking spot not too far from--OH a 996 GT2. A very attractive lady stops you and says--hey, like your car it's beautiful. Gt2 driver, disgruntled says 'typical women' haven't got a clue. Absolutely awful things to own!
My advice, pay a bit extra for a really good one with a high spec, use it, enjoy it, you will be partitioning Herr porsche to re-introduce them after the first week or two.
