Hi all, I need to know why I should buy a 996 over 993. I did have a 3.2 Carrera and am now in the market for another porsche. Are their any good reasons for one over the other? Please try and convince me.( I will ask the same on the 993 page!!)
Thanks
Colin

I think you should say what you want from your Porsche, the 993 is and always will be more raw, however for luxury and lower running costs the 996/997 is going to be the way to go..

a facelift 996 is the best value car with prices where they are
and has good reliability

get a low mileage model and take out protection for a couple of years

I think you will find a 996GT3 rather more raw and somewhat less luxurious than many a 993[8|]

You have to decide what you want from a Porsche. Personally, I'd take my old 3.2 over my current 996 any day, but my partner would not agree! I prefer the raw appeal of a big engine in a relativly light and uncomplicated chassis with no driver aids. But then, if I wanted the car for every day use and no-fuss long distance cruising, a 996 would be ideal. Given a choice, I would have a 993 C2S.

The $6,000,000 question, and one thats hard to answer without ruffling a few feathers in here!

I do not agree about a 993 being more expensive to run than a 996.. 993's can be a bit more bullet proof than a 996.

HOWEVER..

a 996 is less likely to throw you through a hedge backwards than a 993 :)

I think from the looks of things over the last 10 years, a 993 would be a better long term investment suffering either little depreciation or in recent months the opposite and actually appreciating in value, while 996 models are depreciating like any car does.

If I wanted to drive around the world in a 911 I would choose a 996 from a comfort point of view and a 993 from a reliability point of view.

If I wanted to drive around the world, I'd want to enjoy the experience and feel every moment, but that's why I drive a 993. I drove around Germany for nine days not once did I feel uncomfortable... would not have done it & enjoyed it as much in any other car.
