Width of 17" wheels

I've just viewed the link which Dave Wilkinson had refered to on another thread.
By the way great link Dave.

However, I notice on the technical & parts guide, number 14 regarding 17" wheels, that Porsche does NOT approve the fitment of the 9J rear wheel on the C2 and C4.

It would appear also that this notice was issued in July 1991. Has there been an update since?
What are your thoughts?

Paul,

I think the TSB specifically mentions the 9J wheels which were designed for the '91 Turbo cars. IIRC those wheels would have something like an ET61 offset which could not be fitted to a C2/C4 without spacers of around 12mm. Perhaps Porsche just weren't happy at that stage about approving 12mm spacers. I don't think it's a width issue - as John said, he and many others have run 9.5J wheels on the rear with no problems.

Regards

Dave

Thanks for the replies guy's. Just thought i would check/clarify. I know there are some reservations regarding the use of 18" wheels, albeit many people choose to fit them. So I took it as read that there were no issues with any 17's (especially Porsche own) providing the offset is correct.
The 9J's fitted to mine are a straight fit with no spacers and no issues, so was a little bemused to read the tech/parts guide with no mention of offset.
Anyway, if in doubt, ask those that know, thanks i'm rest assured.
