Will aero kit front spoiler fit on economy model?

Got a 996 TT economy and wondered whether the front Aero Kit spoiler will just replace the standard one.

I notice the existing spoiler is little more than a snap fit.

Is it just a the lip spoiler that differs or is it the complete bumper?

Help appreciated

As far as I know, on the front the aerokit gives you a different lip.
It juts forward and may be fractionally deeper. It is also normally painted.

The standard lip is held on by 4 or 6 screws.
It is similar to the GT3 and is almost sacrificial.
I reckon they are designed to be replaced, since it is hard to avoid scraping it and it means you can replace it without touching the (expensive) bumper.

The main difference is at the rear, where the retractable spoiler is replaced with a fixed one, and the whole lot inc. engine lid is made from carbon fibre, so saves quite a few pounds (weight that is, not money).

If you went for the aerokit as an option, I also believe the side sills are painted, rather than the default black plastic colour, so it tends to make the car look lower (unless you have a dark colour to start with).

What do you mean by "996TT economy", by the way?

Hi Stuart

Thanks for your reply.

At this stage I was thinking I like the look of the aero kit front spoiler so wouldn't mind fitting one if it was possible. Spent too much on wheels and exhaust to afford the rear.

"Economy".......well thats my term for the non X50 or "Skint Members" model is an alternative.
Would I be right in thinking the X50 came with these spoilers as standard?

No it's a totally separate option (though quite a few of the X50 equipped cars seem to have the AK fitted

X50 was a 8.5K option, aerokit about 3K I think.

Here is the part number for the whole kit:

Note that you are not supposed to fit them separately.
You get a bit more downforce with the aerokit, so you don't want to unbalance the two axles. It won't matter unless you get over 170ish though.
Which is tricky on the M3 these days, too many roadworks.

Here are the details on what comes as standard at the moment.

Note that some items that are now standard were not originally.

You might want to make a note of the details, since like the GT2 and GT3 pages, I guess these pages will disappear from the site soon.

I think the 'Aero II' kit just doesn't do the job. You get aggro at the front end when you drive over a speed-bump, and the back end looks like you've just graduated from a 'modded' Vauxhall Nova....

Yes I like the look of the GT2 front end. I noticed you had one fitted.

I've known martin a good few years, he used to work for us.

What was the total bill and did you use Porsche parts?

Yes, I used genuine parts. The cost will range from between £1000 and £2000 depending on several factors:
- a genuine plastic bumper or a glass fibre copy
- plastic or fibre glass top vent
- use existing turbo air ducts or buy GT2 ones
- use exisiting turbo headlight trims or buy GT2 ones
You will definitely need Bumper, Left Grill, Right Grill, Centre Grill, Lower Lip Spoiler, Top Vent Grill and the rest is up to you. Have a chat with Martyn as he'll be able to give you a more accurate breakdown.

I don't know about you Lee, but my front spoiler has had a good few scrapes, a good reason (in my humble opinion) to keep it black plastic, you don't see the marks!! Personally I don't like the looks of the aero-kit, or the GT2, but this has to be a personal thing, so each to their own. You can always try a half way house & simply have the lower lip painted to match the body colour, it's a cheaper way to find out how quickly the paint will get scraped off!!
