Will Shims Knacker my Geo?

Got the geo sorted on the motor thanks to Track-Torque up here in Yorkshire (top job!!!!). Looking at the car the other day and thought that there is a little bit of room which could be filled under the arches. I have the necessary shims but wondered if it would effect my geo setup? Are shims actually ok...(only 5mm and 7mm) ...I know they can throw the wheel slightly off centre (unlike spacers) but does it make such a difference?[:-]
