The wife's A4 is XIL
My 911 is IIL
My last A4 was OIL
Her old Scenic was PIL[>:]
Dads motor is MIL
We had cars with : AIL, BIL........
Prior to AIL (approx 1970) it was IL 1234, and before that (approx 1963) it was 1234 IL
One of Pops old VW's was 4370 IL, looked like 437 OIL on the adhesive plate each side of the chrome line on the bonnet.

FYI, all the LIL's (and any _IL registration) originates from Enniskillen Vehicle Reg'n Office, Co Fermanagh, N.Ireland.

You know George I had a feeling it was a N.Ireland plate, quite a lot seem to end up on mainland uk for some reason, maybe because people arent familar with the NI reg system and its harder to put an age to a particular vehicle?
You mention VW? Its amazing how many porsche people started off with VW'S. I still have my baby....

Cheap dateless plates.

Cheers,
Also great if your name is Barry and you don't mind BAZ. I have seen loads of plates with BAZ on them which I assume is a NI plate.

Having said that, I will be very pleased for Paul when the true one and only Lil is back on deck.[]

The comment on I & Z is not quite correct.
Originally, Co Fermanagh was IL, Belfast OI, Armagh UI, Derry IA, IJ was another part of the Northern Reg's and there may have been one or two more.
These were worked thru , ie: AIL, BIL, CIL and AOI, BOI,COI etc. Cahal Curleys 2.7Carrera in 1973 was AUI 1500 for example. When this was exhausted in the 1990's DVLA were selling plates for a fortune and did not need NI issuing nice plates Free. So they got the Z's put into them more recently.
Now we have horrible plates just like the GB system which is foul compared to the old prefix/suffix system.
