Will these fit ???

Your only worry might be the outside of the rears rubbing the arches as an '88 won't be rolled.

Ive got 18" cup 3's on at the moment with 265 tyres and they seem to be ok,im not sure what the offset or size is,whats the correct rear offset ??

It's the ET47 bit that concerns me; I have 18" Cup2 with 265 tyres, but from memory they are ET52.

edited to add: They are 10" wide however, so probably half of the half inch narrower compensates nicely for the change in offset.

I'll be fitting a set of 9.5" ET 45 wheels to the back of a narrow bodied 964 tomorrow [;)]

I actually think they will be fine as my 18" wheels are 10" ET52. Yours are 9.5" ET47, so they are 1/4" (or roughly 6mm) narrower either side of the centre line and the offset change from ET52 to ET47 is 5mm, so they will actually be 1mm less out into the arches than my 10" wheels.

Thanks for the info, ive just tried a wheel of my 83 lux (didnt know they were the same size) which has the same offset/width with 30mm spacers and they fit fine ,on my turbo they seemed ok but did sit out fractionally further than i would have liked !!!

On this subject I have a 1986MY 944 Lux which had 15" teledials and looked a bit under wheeled if you know what I mean! So I have fitted a set of 16" teledials from a 1987 944 Turbo Scotts (sawood12 )to be exact, cheers Scott and I assumed they would fill the arches more but they don't really! They look better obviously, as they are that bigger and wider but the width seems to go into the arch rather than out. I thought the hubs/offset would be the same thinking that the hubs were changed on all 944s in 1985 when the dash, wishbones etc were changed was this not the case??

Also to solve this what size spacers should I be looking for, I like the larger teledials and want to keep that original look.

Cheers

The 944 hubs were changed on 86 models,as some of the first oval dash cars had the same offsets as the early dash type. The newer cars hubs sit out more so the wheels you have will sit further into the arch. I have a set of 18's on my 83 lux which came off an 86 targa which needed spacers to fit (on my 83 car and the 86 targa) but when i fitted them to my 88 turbo i didnt need to use spacers and they fit fine. I had to use 30mm spacers which i think is about what you will need but fen is the man you need to ask for a definate answer !!!

To be certain you'll find the offset cast on the inside of the wheel. They'll be either 23.3 or 53.3. Here's a pic of the inside of one of my old ones to show what you're looking for.

Both the 911 and the 944 had the 30mm spacers on all round. as phil says the offsets are 23.3 which is for the early cars and the 53.3 is for later models,so if you are fitting late wheels on an earlier car (53 offset) putting 30mm spacers on would make them fit as the correct 23 offset, Try ringing somwhere like jasmine as they sell the spacers and would be able to confirm the right size to get.

The change was for 87 when ABS was introduced - across all cars even if no ABS fitted, so the first year of oval dash cars had the early offset,
Tony

Thanks a lot lads, excellent advice, I have ordered a full set of 31mm spacers from Porshapart, should get them this weekend, cost me as much as the wheels!!! Never mind.

Will post some pics when I get them fitted.

Cheers[:)]
