Wind deflector - 981

Hi

I have a 981 Boxster S and it does not have a wind deflector.

First question: does a wind deflector really reduce turbulence when the roof is off? Is it necessary?

Second question: where can I get one and how much should it cost me?

Thanks

Elliot

1. Yes it does - a lot!

2. Your local friendly Porsche Centre will no doubt be delighted to quote you for one...

Not sure a kit is available yet, but this post has all the part numbers:

You'll want the mesh inserts for the headrests too.

Thanks.

I actually have the mesh inserts for the headrests. Will speak to my OPC about the wind deflector for in between the headrests.

One other thing - I assume that the wind deflector is a paid option and not standard equipment? Is there a specific place for it to be stored when the wind deflector is not in use? The reason I ask is that I just bought a 981 Boxster privately and there wasn't a wind deflector between the headrests, but I'm wondering if the previous owner had simply "put it away" (or, more likely, they just ordered it without a wind deflector).

thanks again

Hmmm.... If you've got the mesh inserts then (if it is anything like the previous generation Boxsters) it probably did come with the deflector.

One location is in a storage bag at the rear of the front boot. However I have a feeling that even a recent car such as the 981 has more than 1 possible hiding place...

I bought a new 981 in May and ordered the wind deflector. When the car arrived the wind deflector was missing. The dealer tried to put one from another car in mine but it was a bit more complicated and they had to order some extra parts so I think you will need a kit.

As for storage, there is a bag on the rear of the front boot for it.

Ah, I always wondered what that funny shape bag was in the front boot!

Does anyone else take the wind deflector out to improve visibility? Perhaps during those winter months?

I found it quite easy to remove, there are two buttons to press in at the bottom, the wind deflector can only be inserted one way.

taking out wind deflector also reduces interior turbulence with roof up and windows down

There is a non Porsche alternative to the mesh wind deflector. The cheapest version is from Pedro's Garage http://pedrosgarage.com/Site_2/TechNOwind.html or a more expensive German version http://www.ur-windschott.de/boxter%20high.htm

Has anyone here tried either of these?
