WIND NOISE

Hi

I am a new member of the 993 fraternity and am in the process of bringing my newly acquired 993 Tiptronic S back to pristine condition and have a few outstanding issues that I'm trying to resolve.

I am experiencing a significant amount of wind noise in the car. The drivers door has already been adjusted, but the top corner still creates a lot of wind noise, esp at speed. Furthermore on a recent high speed run (a little faster than plod would condone) I experienced an almost deafening amount of noise around the front screen - is this normal or is something out of adjustment?

After washing the car - by hand of course - there is a small amount of water getting over the bonnet seal. I have had the bonnet adjusted but this seems to have made little difference. Does this suggest the seal needs replacing?

In connection with one of your other threads I am also experiencing poor fuel economy (18mpg), is this normal for an Auto or do I just need to learn to keep the ponies locked up?

Welcome to the forum.

I don't get wind noise from either the door or the front windscreen.

I have taken the car to 140mph and I didn't notice significant noise. Mind you this was during a spirited acceleration test with a 996 S who had one of those switchable sports exhaust systems - bloody loud so maybe I just couldn't hear the wind [:D].

Although the 993 is defintely not the quietest car on the road I would say you still have a problem with at least your door seal. As for the other noise I don't know. BTW the sunroof is very noisy when open or partially open - could you have a problem with yours opening slightly at high speed or worn seals around it?

18MPG does not sound too bad - depends how you drive.

At 140mph it was deafening, and got loader as i went faster.

The sunroof is sitting a couple of mm proud of the roof so perhaps that is the problem.

Thanks for the advice

Don't really have any answers - or offer any help. But my 993 is the cab version and I don't notice any obvious wind noise from the window area at all !!! So certainly worth having it checked properly.

Do also check on the roof motor recall with your OPC.

Wayne.. not sure it helps ?? but from Porsche AG

Thanks. I had the recall done last week by Hatfield OPC. I was hoping that any realignment might cure the issue but this hasn't proven to be the case. As I recall there is a specialist trimmer near Luton or Aylesbury that would be able to replace seals. Does anyone have details?
