Window Frame Corrosion

Having heard contrasting things about this issue I wondered if anyone here could shed a bit of light.

My 97 targa has some heavy corrosion coming through on the driver' s window frame. The message coming from my OPC (since 2001 when I first noticed it...) is that this is not body (so not covered under the bodywork corrosion guarantee) and not mechanical (so no cover under any other warranty).

Has anyone else looked into this?

Thanks

I have a bit of bubbling on my door window frames which I will try to get fixed under the corrosion warranty sometime in the near future.

On another site, this problem has been mentioned by a number of people. I recall that UK owners had about the same success as you in getting the corrosion attended to by Porsche. However, US owners seemed generally to have more success.

Have 2 ,993 at mom one ' 95 rs, one late ' 96..............never got a penny on either both suffered rear quarter trims quite bad bubbling,in fairness to Porsche did agree to treat rust around rubber, rear screen, bottom corner, teflon fitted to later cars around both screens to avoid ' squeak' and rubbing through paint ..........rust !Have to say running ' older' ,not new Porsches many years if purchased and fitted by main agent all parts 2 year warranty upheld if ever neccessary but not these trims ,standard story as in other item ;' not bodywork '
Good luck !

I had this on the ' black finish' window frame on a ' 94 993 - was evident in 1997 - looked like a tin-worm had crawled under the surface. Oddly enough had seen the same corrosion pattern in 1967 on the chromed window frame of a ' 63 356B S90, which was less of a worry compared to the body corrosion that was rampant in that car....maybe the same part supplier !! Buy a 996 -there' s no window frame to rot ;)

Same story from my OPC - not covered by warranty. Apparently the trim is just sprayed aluminium and subject to corrsion. I' ve replaced the rear, drivers window trim and will need to look at the passenger door surround soon. It' s not worth having the door trim resprayed, whilst there is a cost difference, it isn' t too great.

Thanks for your replies - so far my corrosion is limited to one window frame, so at least it' s not all 4 (yet...) I suppose it looks like another contribution to the big shiney showrooms could be in the pipeline, but not without a degree of " discussion" .

Good point on the 996 Oldtimer - I knew there had to be some reason to swap for one & that might just be it!
