Window frames/trim

This is probably one for the boffins, but i was looking through some photographs the other day and noted that the window frames and screen inserts on my 78 turbo are a gunmetal anthracite colour yet looking on numerous press photos turbo's of a similar era they seem to have what looks like painted black frames!?

Anyone know which is correct and if there is any significants?

Sorry to clarify are you saying the earlier cars had black anodised frames and the later were powder coated?

I have to say my frames have a blueish tinge to them, i presume it is possible that someone has used an aggressive polish at some point but i have not seen black anodising fade to this colour!

The frames on my '75 Turbo were anodised black, which had worn back to a gunmetal grey type finish. The option of repeating the anodised finish could not be repeated as this would have left the metal possibly too thin and the results would have been patchy. In the end I decided to have the whole lot powder coated and the results have been consistant and very close to original.

Anodising is fairly aggressive to the top few microns of the metal and while it gave a very hard coating it does wear off over 30 plus years of exposure and use.

Five years on since the rebuild very happy with the results.

Thanks for the advice, as a matter of interest did you use a porsche specialist or go straight to a powder coaters, and would you recomend who ever you went to?
