Window/headlight washers

First the headlight washers and windscreen washers have given up the ghost on my 1983 2.0

The fuses seem to be okay but I must admit I can't figure out which fuses or relays they use

I investigated the w/s motor and found that it was completely dry inside; mainly because it doesn't seem to be watertight! I bought it new a few years back - it seems like it may have been faulty when new.

I presume the h/l washer motor is behind the bumper? I'd quite like to fix that as well.

Ta.

The headlamp washer is fixed directly to the bottle, if you down behind the headlamp at the bottle you can just see it

Fuse 11 suplies the whole of the wiper circuit. When you pull the lever back, teminal 53a (supply) and 53c (output to pump) are internally connected via the switch, with no relay, and the pump runs. At the same time teminal S1 loses its connection to earth, and 12 volts is appplied to S1, (53a & S1)causing the wiper relay to energise for a preset time. Releasing the lever disconnects 53a from 53c, 53a from S1, restores the earth and the timer times out. Intermittent and unexplained random sweeps of the wiper can usually be cured by making sure that there is a good connection between terminals 31 and S1 when the switch is in its relaxed position.

Aaaah, I see the little blighter (the headlight washer motor), seems impossible to remove without unbolting the washer bottle fom the car.

John, does fuse 11 control the headlight washer circuit as well as the windscreen washer circuit?

No. The relay feed is via the ignition switch, the enable signal goes via the headlight switch and the feed for the pump seems to be via 4.0 millimeter cable with no fuse, terminals 56 ( in ) and P (out)
