Window lifter motor repaired

The window lifter motors on 924s & 944s, with prices between between £185 and £250, are not something you want to replace.
I was about to park in town when the window decided it wasn't coming back up.
Returning home, I stripped out the door trim and removed the mechanism. Everything seemed to work except the motor.

At this point I have to say a massive thanks to Bert Gear of Berlyn Services (01271 866818) for his advice to check the motor one more time (even though I was sure it was faulty).

I took the black cover of the motor off and started checking continuity inside with a multimeter. Eventually I found that the 'pop rivet' that holds one of the outside electrical connectors to its matching inside connector had lost its inside flange (presumably due to corrosion) so the inside connector was no longer connected.

I took the motor apart, tying the brushes into their slots and pulled out the armature to get it out of the way. I then soldered the inside connector to what remained of the pop rivet and re-assembled it.
Result . . . - one working motor and no big bill . . .

Its worth mentioning that when refitting in the car the outside connectors need treating with repect otherwise the solder joint inside may get broken.

well done Vince ,thanks for posting the tip. There is a lot of satisfaction in doing a job yourself and learning something in the process . Plus saving that much money makes it doubly worth while.
I just wish my windows were a little quicker going up and down grrrrrr[]

Hope it will save someone some money - for what is a simple fix.

My window now goes down like gravity! . . . . . .but is still an OAP coming back up []

BTW I noticed that the 3 little 'round' wheels on the ends of the lifter mechanism arms (which run in the 3 fixed tracks) are approaching 'square' instead - all adds to the friction that the poor motor has to overcome.
