window not dropping properly

Hi, had a problem today with my windows. I was putting the roof down and did not realise that the windows did not drop down while i was operating the roof, The roof seemed to spring out of the its rest position as if it was being held back. All seemed ok afterwards except when you now open the drivers door the window only drops a fraction of what it used to and only just clears the frame to open the door, and when you close the door it pushes really tight into the roof frame and touches the trim on the frame of the roof (the black cast trim on the side of the frame}And pushes the roof frame a little bit. I am worried that it may break the glass or chaff against the roof trim, can anyone help. regards dawson.

Hi Daws
Don't know much about these things, but I recently had to have the drive for my roof replaced. This was done by Redline Racing (North-East) Ltd, my local 'independant'. As I understand it the drive is by two 'multistrand cables' from the motor to the mechanical linkage at each side (rather like 'speedo' cables). Anyway, one of mine had apparently 'tied itself in a knot', and the cables were duly replaced (car is 6 years old). When I rang Redline to check on progress, they had changed the cables, but still had the 'synchronisation' to reset. It sounds to me as if your roof system/windows is currently out of synch?? As you will know, the windows need to drop by a certain amount at a certain time in relation to the roof operation, and also do something similar in relation to the door operation, so I would suggest you have this checked out.
If you would like to speak to Redline about this, try Dave on 01642 751911. He's very helpful.

Hi Daws,

This can be reset by letting the windows know their new resting position.

1. Turn the car on
2. Put the windows all the way down, then all the way up.
3. Then hold both switches all the way up for ~3+ seconds.
4. Programming complete.

Hopefully this helps.

Cheers,
Graeme

Hi thanks both for the reply, I have tried to reset the windows but still the same. The passenger window is ok , its just the drivers side. it only just clears the roof frame and then when closed pushes really tight into the roof frame putting pressure on the hood side trim.regards, dawson

I think you will have to adjust the glass height in the window regulator. The height may have changed with what you described. It can be adjusted by removing the blanking plugs in the bottom of the door to access the regulator (I believe).

Just be careful in doing so via the adjustments under the door sill as one of them also adjusts the horizontal distance of the glass to the car frame & seals. You'll soon notice a mistake was made if you start seeing water penetrating behind the window.

My money is on the window regulator. The cable can slip after a while.

HI had a look at the door today, took out the plastic plugs, and can see a nut, is this the regulator that needs to be adjusted? Do you know if so which way you turn the nut to adjust the window down. There is 2 plastic plugs in each door ,do both need to be adjusted
regards dawson.

Not entirely sure, but I would try one carefully turning one turn in either direction to see the change. One nut controls the up/down, the other fore/aft position.

Tried adjusting the nuts on the bottom of the door gromets, but didn;t make a diferance, they seem to slide back and forth on a slider, but tried it at all positions with no luck. any suggestions .
regards dawson.
