Window off runner + tick over RPM

Please could anyone help on 2 pretty straight forward questions (i hope!):

When i wind down the drivers door window (electric), the window goes down but after a few inches, the glass comes out of the runner (have lubed the glass edge runner but still an issue), so the glass stays still while the mechanism inside the door carries on down. i wind the mechanism back up again and the mechanism 'picks up' the glass and i can close the window again. i have fitted new mechanisms (i think they were referred to as regulators?) to other cars so happy to have a play inside the door, but before i pull everything apart, can anyone give a little guidance please. what holds the window inside its runner? is it worth getting any parts before i start or is it possible a fixing has simply come loose and i could possibly repair without parts - appreciate any guidance or thoughts, i dont think there is anything particularly wrong on the edge runners, just the glass retainer has come lose or something?.

Second question was something i noticed the other day for the first time which i think is wrong. i was onroute home from a great day at Festival of Speed and got caught in a traffic jam for about 20 mins so the engine was pretty hot. i noticed that at idle the engine was racing, circa 1100 RPM. I was going up a reasonable hill if there is any relevance. i used the car again today and once warm the revs were lower but they still seem a bit high to me, at circa 950 RPM. What RPM would you expect and if i am running high, any thoughts on what could be causing this? the car is well maintained overall. if no ideas i will head for Machtech who have looked after it for the last 12 years, just looking for some thoughts so i dont waste any time.

Appreciate any guidance

Thanks
Darren

On the bottom of the glass you have a runner that is attached to the glass over time it becomes loose. I had this problem a few years ago you can easily fix this your self, after taking the door card off you can get at he bottom of the glass I tuck the glass out cleaned it and the runner before using silicone glue to glue it back in
Not sure on the RPM but have a look at the pedal mechanism first just in case you have crap lodged down there
after that it could be a number of things that others may suggest but I would just take it to your garage that you use

Great thanks 3.2 Fordy - sounds easy enough then, will get onto that when i get a spare moment.

Appreciate any further thoughts, especially on the RPM question now i guess

Thanks

Hi,

Had the revs issue exactly as you describe for a couple of years on my little-used 3.2. Pulling the pedal up when stationary always dropped the revs back to normal. I was convinced the cable was the problem and asked for this to be changed when it went in for other work. They didn't do it however as it didn't play up when in the garage but the problem returned almost straight away.
I was under the car the other day changing the gearbox oil and disconnected the throttle linkage adjacent to the filler hole for better access and noticed a build-up of grease right at the bottom end of the little slider 'track' which was visible when the nipple was disconnected. Cleaning this out with a rag has cured the problem completely. It was only a tiny amount on both nipple and 'track' and was responsible for the loss of the tiny amount of extra movement required to drop the revs all the way back.
Worth a try.

Regards,

Peter

Thanks for the feedback guys, will give both of these a try when the rain stops! See how i go from there

Is anyone able to confirm RPM at idle please

Thx
