Window opening via Door handle...

I've noticed recently (maybe the cold weather?) that the window does not always pop down to clear the hood in time to beat me opening the door. I now have to pause to make sure it clears first. Anyone had this problem &/or sorted it out? I'm willing to fix it myself if no special tools are needed.
 
Thanks Gary - I know there is a bit of a delay but the driver's side now seems to be slower than the passenger door. That's what led me to think there might be a prob with the contact or something.
Surprising how it takes the high-quality feel away from your treasured porsche when the window 'twangs' against the hood on opening the door!
 
Have you cleaned the rubbers?

I'd be very surprised if it were an electrical fault.

If it is really that obvious/bad then I suppose the switch that operates the system could perhaps be mis-adjusted.
I have no idea how it works, but must be some sort of micro switch that detects the door pull at some point..

Sounds like I need to do a bit of investigation at the weekend. I'll start by checking/cleaning the window rubbers and take it from there.
I wondered if it might be a misplaced contact or switch on the door lever, but I didnt want to start removing the door panel if I can help it.
 
I have noticed that in cold weather the window tends to "stick" to the seals. The rubber seals on the window/hood frame are specialy coated for low friction so be careful what you use to clean the seals. I have used rubber seal cleaning compound from Sonax and this seemed to work -for a while. The best is probably silicone spray, but have to use often. Might try just talc next time !
 
There is a microswitch inside the door located just inside where the exterior handle passes through the skin, it is held in place by two plastic clips, they can and do come loose, simply push them back into position.
You do not comment if the same thing happens when you open the door from the inside, there is a difference as the micro switch for this is next to the inner door handle
 
I think the mechanism is intended to guarantee a proper and better seal when closing the door as apposed to having any function upon door opening. At least that is the case with other cars i've had and known. It could also be that the mecanism is designed not to function at low temperatures to prevent damage to the regulator in the event the window is stuck due to frost.
 
Glyn - Having seen your reply, I reckon it must be the microswitch on the external handle. I compared the internal handle a few times and this is much better and no different to the passenger door.
Now I'll have to consult the workshop manual on accessing the microswitch...
 
Russ, it is simple, open the door and remove the inner door panel, once removed you only need to peel back the protective plastic liner close to the door lock (Top left corner for the passenger side or top right corner for the drivers side)
Once peeled back shine a torch up to the area around the exterior door handle, you will see the micro switch (to the right on passenger side or to the left on drivers side) Just follow the electric cable.
The switch is only held in place by two push in plastic pegs, the type that has a center push in peg to splay apart the outer plastic sleeve.
The switch has a spring steel operating cam which contacts the plastic of the door handle, when you pull the outer door handle it presses down on the steel which in turn pushes the operating pin on the microswitch.
If one of the locating pins are detached the switch moves a little and you need to pull the exterior handle up a little more before the switch actuates and tells the window to lower.
