Having a problem with a 1989 porsche s2,the passengers side electric window will only go down and not up,i've tried using the drivers side switch but it still does not go up.any ideas?

I maybe wrong, but could it be the electric window relay?
Or maybe the motor has klonked out.

this happened to me some time back and it was the switch on the passengers side which was knackered, my drivers side switch was also abit intermitant replaced both and it's been fine[:D]

thanks for the suggestions ,it's going into the local specialists on monday to sort the problem.Does the window have 2 motors then?It goes down ok??I thought it might be the relay but i thought it might not be the switch because there's the other switch on the drivers window and it does not go up when i press it??i'll let you know what it was.

I think it will be one of your switches,

One motor, the switch changes polarity.

both switches are wire together, sometimes one bad connection can will stop one direction on both switches.

I have taken mine apart and cleaned the connections, OK for 4 months but now the same as yours.

I bet it stuck down when it was raining and I bet you told the kids not to press that button.

Switches are easy to clean, just be careful taking them apart as they can "explode". Try that first as is't free and taked 15 minutes. Assaid above if one switch is dodgy it can knock out the function of both switches.

had to park it next to a wall while i was out and about!!Now safely back in the garage. No rain but was pretty windy!!

It was booked in at the specialists anyway for a service so they can sort it at the same time.Anyone got any idea how much to replace tappets?

I was charged 6 hours to take replace my cams, so that's a starter since I guess they have to come out, plus whatever the tappet change takes. Is it an S2 (or S I guess)?

No idea what's involved, but 2 extra hours is 120 minutes. For 16 tappets that doesn't sound like enough to me, especially if anything else has to come off along with the cams.

Sounds expensive anyway Fen!!,It was the passenger window switch that was at fault being replaced
