Window rubber/felt trim inside doors

My car suddenly developed a very loud rattle from the rear edge of the drivers door so I took the door panel off to find that the metal guide at the rear of the glass within the door was unattached at the bottom and the rubber/felt seal that I assume should sit between the glass and the metal guide was loose inside the bottom of the door.

Is it possible to refit this bit of rubber/felt without taking the window out. I certainly hope so because I have pretty much reached the edge of my comfort zone mechanically already ;) I have tried feeding the bit of trim back up the guide without luck.

Also, what keeps this bit of trim in place? Is it just push fit?

There are two metal guides for the window channel to locate in (near the bottom of the door under the pop out vent) and it is then secured by a screw at the bottom. The inner seal should just slot back into it or you may want to glue it back in.

There is also a screw (hex-head) in the back of the guide which is a PIG to get to. It came loose (less than 1/4 turn) on my S2 drivers door, and while it was very easy to see the problem it was a major dismantling job to get it apart enough to turn the head of the screw.

It needed to be done as it made the door rattle something rotten being loose.

(Sorry, this probably hasn't helped at all has it! [&:])

I am really hoping the one missing screw I found (hex head) and the rubber strip has solved my rattle. I finished the job too late last night to do a test drive and find out. It wasn't difficult but I don't fancy taking the damn door card off again to faff around with more inaccessible screws ;)

Thanks for the suggestion though.

I suspect that if you think it solved it, you probably did. When I did mine it was very clear that the guide bar was loose, and once the screw was tweaked up tight the bar was noticably more rigidly held in the door structure.

I hope, for your sake, it was worked. Fixing rattles is a VERY satisfying business; I solved an annoying rattly-clonk on the NSR suspension of my S2 last weekend, and it is several times more pleasant to drive as a result! One of the springs that held the handbrake shoes to the backplate had broken, so the shoes were loose inside the drum, and it 'clonked' everytime it went over a bump (of which there are many on UK roads nowadays.) A bit of improvisation with a new spring and all is quiet. This, on top of my having scotched a rattle in the rear wiper mechanism a month or so ago, and I am a very happy bunny! [:)]

Hope you find yours is OK.

Just removed the door trim panel to investigate a glass rattle and found the rear rubber/felt runner in the bottom of the door, the metal channel it fits into is secure and it seems the rubber wont feed back between the glass and the channel, any ideas ?

I think you will need to take the door glass out then refit the rubber/felt runner into the rear channel second then re-install the door glass. Step 2 might be easier done on the bench. But if I remember correctly, you need to take the central locking actuator and the security plate out first before the rear channel will come out. None of it is difficult, just nut and bolt stuff. It's just the sequencing that makes it a bit of a PITA.

No camera handy at the moment but it's what's been described earlier in this thread, I was hoping to loosen the metal channel and using WD40 or similar slide the rubber/felt back into place between the glass and channel ?
