Window washer

My window washer stopped working today, I have tested the wires and they are getting 10.5v with the engine off so I guess the motor is dead. Anyone have one they would like to sell or know of a place to get one?

I got a generic pattern one from a local factor last time I needed one. I think the Golf one uses two outlets for the front and rear windows, so they have the two a 944 needs for the front window and headlights. It was probably Mk2 Golf if there is any difference across the years.

Cant find any on ebay but GSF sell one for about £7.50. I have a Mk2 golf sat outside so I will have a look in the daylight. The only thing is the 944 clips onto the water tank and I dont think the golf one does. Maybe the back plate will come off to swop them around.

The one I have clips onto the front of the tank just behind the light motor and has the pipes out of the lid of the tank to the pump, if that makes any sense[8|]

I needed one recently which sounds the sames as yours, clips onto the bottle rather than in it and looked at around 60 cars in a breakers and couldnt find one on anything although there wasnt any mk2 golf to compare,i ended up getting one of a 924in the end. I think the one that fist into the bottle was fitted from 87 onwards ??

The one I mean slots into a couple of grooves in the outside of the bottle. It has a protrusion out the bottom that goes through a hole in the tank below the pump, that hole has a rubber grommet in it that meant when I wrote "rubber bung" above.

I forget where the pipes come off, but out the top of the motor sounds right - either that or one comes off the top and the other off the side.

That sound like the later type fen ,the one i have does'nt go into the bottle at all it just clips on the outside and is held on by a metal bracket.

Just replaced mine last week. I bought an OEish one from EuroCarParts for £19.98, looks the same as the original with a 928-series part number.

As described above, mine was on the front of the bottle, low down, just behind the power steering cooling pipe. I don't have particularly large hands but couldn't get at it easily. So, I removed the front wheel, wheel arch liner, brake cooling duct, and loosened the power steering cooling pipe. At this point it simply pops out, held in only by the friction of the rubber gromet. One electrical connector and one exit pipe to swap over then re-assembly in the reverse of.....etc.

Good luck.

Neil yours sound like the later type as well as its located down the bottom of the bottle, the early type is half way up behind the headlight and is very easy to change. The pipes come in and out of the cap at the top of the bottle where you fill it up rather than through a rubber bung !!

Before you rush & get a new pump,if,the pump runs but no jets of water,it could be the one way valves before the washer jets.I replaced the ones on our 924S earlier this year.

Ah yes, see what you mean, just looked at the diagram for an early model. That's a lot easier to get to!

Yes mine is a early one. If you see Trev's post about his headlight, at the top of page 2 is a photo. Trev has the late type as you can't see it. Mine is clipped to the front of the bottle just about the place his wire for the motor is.
Looks like it will be a call to OPC and have to part with loads of cash. Good job I dont have shares in Halifax....

I took my early one apart cleaned it, oiled it and put it back together, it still worked fine 3 years later when i sold the car.
