Window Washers Broken!

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone has experienced this as a common fault or even know the likely fix?

When pulling back the window washer stalk the resevoir kindly leaks all over the floor and nothing comes out of the washer jets!!

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Roy

Roy,
Were the washer jets frozen? If so the pressure may have blown the pipes off redirecting the water onto your feet!

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the suggestion, this may well be the case actually because it's been sitting on a forecourt the last couple of weeks where the guys selling could have done this whist it was frozen.

I haven't taken a look yet but do you know how easy the access is to the washer resevoir and piping?

Also, you know where the roof latches on inside the car.. The bit where it latches on (where the interior light is) is fairly loose... Is this normal? I suspect not but i've never had a convertable before.

Thanks,

Roy

The hood latch is good and sharp on my Box. I think if you have a 'loose' latch on your car it is likely to be a little out of adjustment.

The actual latch is ok but the plastic bit where it joins to (with interior light embedded), you can actually almost remove it when the latch is off for te roof!

Anyone got any ideas where i can get something like this repaired?

Other than the washer and latch problem everything seems really sharp!!

Thanks,

Roy

Merry Christmas All

I had a similar problem with the headlamp washers yesterday (Saturday).

Mid day I drove to Reading to watch the footy. After the match when I returned to the car and started off it beeped and the low washer fluid level lamp lit. I though it strange as it was serviced in September at OPC Reading and had only driven about £1500 miles since. I topped up the reservoir moaning about poor servicing standards but this morning--- Large pool of water coming from under garage door.

Topped up a gain and this time noticed that the water was actually leaking out of the nearside headlamp washer nozzle. It wasn't below freezing yesterday so could the seals have gone in the pop up unit causing syphon action?

Back to OPC in the new year to see if its covered under Warranty.

Hi,

Had the same problem on my previous Boxster, you need to remove the front offside wheel and the left hand side of the inner plastic wheel arch liner.

Under there you will find a plastic coupling where two small diameter black plastic pipes meet, under pressure the lower or upper pipe drops off. Just pushing the pipe back on will not work so apply a small amount of 'super' glue to the outer surface of the coupling and re-fit.

This also happened to an Audi Avant that I had years ago but the fault happened inside and I nearly had to swim out!

Hope this helps!

Better still - put on a jubilee clip. Gluing is't going to help if any pipe needs replacing in future...

Thought about that option at the time, but they do not make jubilee clips with an inside diameter small enough for the pipe. They are worm gear driven remember.

Also I did not fancy a nice lump of metal rubbing up and down on the inside of my wheel arch...

The options were a 'C' clip which clamps on with a pair a pliers, tie wraps, glue or a combination of the above.

Personally I opted for the superglue option backed up by nylon tiewraps as I have used this option in high vibration robotic assembly environments in the past and the results have been superb. Indeed for two years after the washer pipe fix the repair had held fast.

You could also use fast set expoxy resin but in both cases the glue should be applied to the outside of the coupling and great care taken not to get any glue into the washer mechanism as this will result in a big bill!!!

That's odd, unless we are talking a different pipe? I fitted a worm drive clip to mine (as a precaution) when I had the wheelarch liners out a few years ago. The clip isn't anywhere it can rub either...

We must be thinking of a different location/pipe?[:)]
( I was meaning the one that comes down from the washer bottle - and I can't remember exactly - it was a long time ago[;)])

Mark, I've attached a drawing, maybe you could indicate which pipe you clamped?

I have to admit that it has been a couple of years since the repair and on a previous (986 '99 2.5) car, the mists of time may have shrunken the pipes in my mind! Especially after Christmas and New Year...

Oddly enough I have to take out the wheel arch liner on my '03 S this weekend due to the emergency fuel release falling out the other day, [&:] so I'll double check the pipe I repaired!
