Windows Crying.....

Hi All,

987 - 4k

This post may seem a bit pathetic but I would be grateful for any thoughts, just a niggle about a great car!

After a good wash and hosing the door seals appear to be performing poorly. When the windows are opened and closed a few days after the clean there is still a lot of moisture in the door frames, which leaves a noticeable residue on the glass upon closure; also when washing some water leaks into the cabin around the glass.

Is the above typical behaviour, for a precision engineered German (Finnish built!) product?

Thanks for any advice.

Don't think I have ever had a car that did not have this problem, if you think thats bad, in the days of MGB fish could survive in the boot [:D]

As I said Marlin, it was a rather pathetic post.....

Thanks

I would not say pathetic, we had a MCS Works that drove me to distraction, wash the car and the first time you dropped the window, put it back up and you could not see wing mirror with the dirt it brought up.[]

I don't have this issue on mine, or the previous 986, but then i do wipe all the seals when drying off the car after a wash and brake drying run.

YOu might have slightly badly adjusted windows, or perhaps just poor seals - do you have excessive windnoise form the same area ?, and is it the same on both sides ?

Hi Blackbox,

Funny you should say that but yes I do get excessive windnoise from both sides, when I am using a few BHP the windnoise does take over from the BOSE sound system; I do the brake drying run btw.

Any thoughts on a possible cure?

Thanks.

At 4k miles take it back to the delaer and ask them to investigate the wind noise and moisture - they may replace both seals under warranty

Hi All,

As a follow up on this post about my moisture problem, I had a minor service recently and I pointed out what I thought was an issue with the window seals.

The technician doing the work said that behaviour was a feature of the whole range, i.e. all Porsches, and I simply had to live with it. I don't think I agree, and it was just some spin to avoid any further work on their part.

I do suffer from excessive wind noise, and in my view when the window has the water droplets from running the window up and down the visibility is considerably reduced both sideways and to the rear; thus it must be a safety issue as well.

Any thoughts on the comments above, we only have one OPC here in Guernsey so there's no possibility of getting another opinion without taking the car off island.

6k on the clock and the warranty expires in August, going back in next week to have some warranty work done on the engine so hoping to address this problem again.

Do Porsche like Audi have a customers service number that you can call to discuss issues with their cars; I used to run Audis and their UK help line was very good indeed; if so any contact numbers.

Thanks.
