how much we talking for a replacement front windscreen for a 997s do we think?? its starting to look a tad scruffy so i didnt know weather it shud be replaced...unless a stone happened to hit it beforehand!!!!!

Sounds like the way forward. 900 quid seems rather expensive, I just hope I have windscreen cover on my insurance

My advice would be don't replace it unless you absolutely have to.

My experience (and that of others) leads me to conclude that the quality of refitment is a bit of a lottery and you also incur the risk of hidden paintwork damage that can be the cause of corrosion a few years down the line.

With PCGB discount a replacement screen cost £850.89 last September at a local OPC - two attempts and two screens needed to get it right. Another OPC offered to sub contract the work for around £650, but as I was only paying the £50 excess I decided to go with the in-house OPC foolishly believing that this would be better.

Shop around and haggle.

A new screen from mobile Windscreens with Top Tint, Radio antenna and Sat Nav Aerial cost around £500 and was well fitted at my house.

Apparently if an OPC does a windscreen, it is not done by their own staff but one of the Specialists. They just mark up the cost to them.[:)]

Hi there
The one thing that I would suggest is that you get a geniune part. They are always a better product.Porsche use Sekurit. It will be stamped in the centre of the bottom of the screen. If you ever come to sell it with a chinese screen it may be a problem as people like original items fitted.

Really gratefull for the info guys. only thing thou is I guess my insurance company would wanna use their own people

If you have seen the 997 production line, fitting the front screen and rear window are the only robotised processes in 997 assembly. They do it for quality of fitment.

I would be very wary about quality of fitment of any subsequent replacement, even with OPC's finest. Whilst my windscreen has a few stone scuffs, I will not get it replaced unless it is absolutely necessary.

I'm sure that will be what the policy says but it's worth arguing for a genuine Porsche part. That's what my broker (A Plan) did on my behalf and as Andrew (Hastings glazing) points out used the potential diminution in value associated with the use of third party kit to persuade the underwriter (Groupama) to agree to an OPC repair.

Couldn't agree more
