Windscreen costs

A nasty young brat threw a stone at my Boxster windscreen last weekend while I was travelling at some 50 mph enjoying the sunshine. Result wife frightened to bits and a spiral of damaged glass, 4" across and windscreen in need of replacement.

Now the cost, RAC Autowindscreens, possibly reduced indirectly by my Porsche Assistance cover, £675! Autoglass, £735 + VAT ! So any of you out there without a decent low excess on the windscreen part of your insurance, beware!

David,
Who is your insurance with? I thought windscreen cover with a low excess was fairly universal now, but I'm obviously naive.

Glass is usually a seperate policy clause.
Mine has always been £50-£60 without affecting the no claims bonus.
Claimed on a few vehicles over the years, luckily nothing as nasty as what has happened to yourself []

to hear of this behaviour "sickens " me ! [:(] i hope you are both not too un-nerved by this - i too was under the impression of only a £60.00 excess ?? hope you get it sorted a.s.a.p. and good wishes to you .

Just looked at my documents with Elephant and mine is £70.00 excess. Can't believe they charged you that much.

Hi guys, insurance is on a fleet policy with RSA. In this case a general £250 excess applies as with any other claims.

The other point I have found out is that even though the excess is that high if you want a Porsche OM part you may pay a further £160 + VAT for the privilige. Now that might just be my policy but with the costs of any screen being so high you might well find a low excess is not quite what it seems....

Having now had the screen replaced it was also a pig to do - 2hrs 30 including taking out the plastic trim under the bonnet and over the battery housing - and what's more the wrong screen trim was fitted so it all has to come out again to sort that out!
