Windscreen finisher lifting up at one end

I have the same issue as this guy off the internet with the windscreen scuttle panel trim /windscreen finisher coming away, Im chasing water leaks at the moment, and also I have noticed that the rubber seal surrounding the windscreen overlaps the screen by only .5mm all the way around is this right?

Also how is the finisher this guy is holding in the pic sealed to the windscreen, or is it not? I have some Butyl in my garage if it needs to be re sealed.

If I remember correctly, the finisher has no role to play in waterproofing the windscreen. I recall that on my Cayman R it was hard to get it to sit correctly across the width of the screen. I think it had warped a bit. I got a reasonable result by removing the wiper arms and then carefully undoing and refitting the finisher. If it is tightened up too much in the middle it lifts at the end etc. A lot of trial and error.

There may be a better way of doing it, and perhaps someone will come along who knows!

Thank you for replying to my posting, its good to know its nothing to do with waterproofing the windscreen, I was very surprised that my finisher had no bonding what so ever to fix it to the base of the windscreen, the part itself has discoloured slightly and im guessing without any bonding and being prone to the elements wind rain etc it is only reasonable to expect it to warp.

Good point John about the finisher being over tightened in the middle, I will check this out today,..... thanks for the heads up

Fantastic, your heads up got me thinking, so I loosened all of the nuts etc holding the finisher, this helped but not as much as I was hoping, however I remembered that the car has not long ago had a service and a replacement cabin filter was installed, the screen finisher has attached to it an aluminium bracket and flimsy weather shield flap thing, the bracket secures the cabin /pollen filter, loosening the brackets top two torque screws I was able to correctly fit the finisher flush to the screen.

Really simple job, but without your heads up john it would have taken me some time, it just goes to show the power of the forum, that one thought provoking comment helped fix the car.

Great result Nick. Glad you got it sorted.

I think my issues stemmed from a windscreen replacement which was a saga in itself.

On all modern cars, the engineering and design that goes into making trim and other plastic pieces is quite incredible (as is the language when you try to take it apart - at least in my experience). The way they clip together and line up, you can usually correctly assume that if they don't fit there is an underlying issue somewhere. Trying to refit the wheel arch liners and chassis undertrays is a good puzzle for a sunny afternoon too.
