Windscreen replacement

Before i call the insurance people, i was wondering if i should expect any problems with getting the windscreen on my 944 replaced, its got some big chips on it that may be too big for a repair. The only reason i am asking is because its a heated screen and also has some plastic coating on the inside. Will they be able replace like for like or try and palm me off with a non heated windscreen?

Thanks
Matt

Ive never seen a 944 heated windscreen before. Ive seen them for aircooled 911s; is it an aftermarket part?

Heated front screen on a 944! Wowsers, don't think that was ever an option? As Paul said, probably the aerial wiring. I had mine done by Autoglass, long old story there but I ended up with them doing it there and I went after my old one had been removed to check for corrosion etc. Worthwhile making a fuss about the whole thing and making sure you keep an eye on it.

Certainly is worthwhile............................. .................................dont ask [8|]

I'm in the same position with a chip which is getting bigger and having had a repair done on my wifes car I was less than impressed with the result as it has remained visible although I suppose it hasn't spread! I was wondering if people had good replacement results with any particular company or whether it is down to the local branch. Sounds like there have been a few issues to me.......! Cheers

Yeah maybe i got it wrong. I have two switches for screen demisting, i assume one if for the front screen. It doesn't seem to do anything else clever like direct air to the windscreen so i assumed thats what it was a heating eliment Either way, if it is an aerial in there, will they be able to sort that out aswell? Paul - what were your problems, to help me keep an eye on them? Thanks

Its far more likely to be the aerial: all replacement screens will have this. You can get a screen that doesnt though; which was fitted into the 1981 924 Carrera GT. Its a bit cheaper but its far less common, so youre unlikely to be offered the wrong part. Simon

Minor damage (scuffs at top right and left of dash) where it meets the lower corners of the windscreen and a stanley knife slash into the nearside A pillar cover. I wasnt there but apparently its an absolute b*st*rd cutting off the original screen. I`d seriously suggest you are there or highlight any existing (or lack of) damage before he/she starts so you know whats been done in error.

Typical problem is the paint is stripped of on the frame which then rusts and requires the screen being removed again to treat and respray the window frame. The one in my 968 is badly fitted and allows some noise in which is very annoying (its a common problem), the S2 one had to be done twice as the first time autoglass messed it up completely. Second time round they got it pretty much spot on.

That's what it's supposed to do, if it's the one in the middle of the dash? Thread describing what happened when I had mine done last year: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=337784
