Windscreen replacement

964rh

New member
Hi

Has anyone used Autoglass to replace their windscreen?

Are there any horror stories, as per the ones on the 993 forum, on using companies like this that I should be aware of?

Thanks

Rob

I have used them several times, to replace a windscreen in a 924S, and also on my wife's Golf Mk4, and both times they made a truly splendid job. You simply couldn't have told that the windscreen had been changed, no damage, no mess, no hassle.

I'd recommend them, albeit I imagine the service will vary from branch to branch.

Are there any horror stories.....

Rob,

There is the good old chestnut about whether the 964 screen should be bonded or not. Apparently Adrian Streather is adamant that it SHOULD be bonded (pages 490 onwards in THE book) but, apparently, many of the windscreen replacement companies seem to think it shouldn't. Don't forget the radio aerial either!!

Let us know how you get on.

Regards

Booked in at Autoglass Leicester next Sat.

Speaking to the depot quashed some of the fears I had about using them. They are pulling a guy from another depot to fit the screen as he's one of the most experienced people they've got in the Midlands. He has said he will be bonding the screen and making sure aerial and everything is spot on before releasing the car to me.

I'll post when it's done to let you know the outcome.

Glad to say that Autoglass fitted the new screen OK.

Re the bonding issue - The man they brought in from another branch said they should all be bonded and can't understand why people wouldn't. Aerial ok as well.

The only downside was that they left a bit of old sealant on the floor of the car. They sent someone out to hoover today!

Oh and the other downside was it got peppered in grit tussling with a quick Pug 106 Rallye on country roads on the way to Bowood yesterday.

Really must learn how to drive now!
