Windscreen Rubber

JB 3.2

New member
Not sure if this has been covered before but having just replaced my front winscreen the following may be of use.

When the old screen was removed there was no sign of any teflon tape around the screen aperture.

When I ordered a new outer screen rubber from Porsche it turned out there are two types available. One is a normal screen rubber and the other appears to be an improved version where one side of the rubber has a different finish, according to my screen fitter this is used instead of teflon tape to stop the screen creaking.

Hi John,

Just had my screen replaced last week on my 993 C2S with a new screen direct from Porsche,it came supplied with a roll of Teflon tape in the box, it was fitted by Autofarm and they did a great job,no creaks and fits better than the old one, not aware there were 2 different types of screen avaiable? I did notice the inside edge of the old rubber that was removed had a kind of felt type coating which i presume was to minimise friction (squeaks)between the rubber and the car paint work, but that did not prevent the squeaking on mine, however the new one with the porsche tape is 100% squeak free.

Regards, Mike.
