They say it will remove light scratches - I just use it as a cleaner. If you would like to give it a try next time you are passing, let me know.
I didn't find the Zaino Glass cleaner & polish helped much, but I can highly recommmend it for a deep-cleaning of the glass [8D]

You need Jeweler's Rouge (look for suppliers on eBay) and a small high-speed mop. Something like a Dremel is perfect.
But does that not cause a small distortion in the patch of glass you polish?
Or there is this stuff, specifically marketed as windscreen scratch polish

You'd have to spend a really long time in one place to do that.

Eventually I decided to order a Windscreen Polishing Kit from ABC Polishing, they can be found at http://abcpolishing.co.uk The kit was £21.50 plus postage. It arrived within 4 days of ordering and comprises an abrasive powder, a polishing powder and 2 polishing mops for an electric drill. It worked pretty well and the end result is good. The scratches that I had were not too deep but there are other kits available for deeper scratches.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

A point worth remembering would be to state that you want a factory windscreen when you are getting them replaced. These are usually Securit brand and will be stamped on the bottom centre or left of the screen itself. They fit a whole lot better than the Chinese knock offs that most insurance companys try to have fitted.

Be careful! I had a scratch polished out and ended up with lens effect right in my field of vision. It was a weird effect. Had to get a new screen.

I think they must have dwelled to long on the one patch possibly due to a really deep scratch.
Normal wiper scores should polish out with jewlers rouge. I used it where a girlfriend with a big effing diamond ring used to scratch the glass while messing with her hair (she never admitted it, but you could tell from the scratches how it happened).. I also used it when i had a wiper blade go off walkabout during rain, causing the arm to scratch the glass for about 4 strokes until I fumbled for the wiper stalk.
